About Me

I am a semi-retired arborist currently pursuing a career in photography with my main focus on music. I have been married to my lovely wife for 20 years and we have two children ages 22 and 18.
I'm originally from a small town on the shore of Lake Ontario in WNY, spent the last 20 years in central NC and recently moved to eastern TN to be closer to our final destination, our 140 acre homestead deep in the Blue Ridge Mountains of SW VA.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

My partner and I will be travelling around the southeast over the next few months shooting some of the bigger rock festivals and as many local shows as we can fit in. We would be looking for locals near some of these bigger shows who could put us up for a couple of nights. Although new to CS, I have been an active host for the bicycle touring page Warm Showers and have thoroughly enjoyed both meeting and offering these weary travelers a home away from home.

Interests

My main interests over the last 30 years or so have mostly been based on the precept of sustainable living. Doing more with less, living within my meager means, giving more than I receive. Much of this was put into practice over the last five years while my wife and I ran a small permaculture based farm in North Carolina know as the Tar River Permaculture Project.

Here, my lifelong interests were put into play as we delved into alternative energy, grey water, wild foods, heirloom seeds, food preservation, vermiculture and building community. Over the years we housed interns ranging from college students, veterans, vagabonds, wayward children and landless farmers. In a sense, we have unknowingly been CS hosts long before becoming a CS member.

Music, Movies, and Books

Music wise, while I enjoy the large, well known bands I get the pleasure to photograph on occasion, my main love is local, unsigned talent. Whether it be metal, hip-hop, rhythm and blues, country or bluegrass, these hard working, talented and dedicated musicians are an ingrained part of my life.

As far as movies and books, it's mostly reference and education, the more you know, the less you need.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I can't really say that I've done anything that could be categorized as amazing. I guess in this day and age when marriages are considered temporary, being with the same person for 23 years and still being madly in love is amazing. Having two great kids that still have their original parents when very few of their friends do could be considered amazing. I haven't surfed in Bali, hiked across the Himalayas nor drank ayahuasca with a shaman in South America, but I did high five the late Paul Gray of Slipknot and got stinky drunk with the late Kevin DuBrow of Quiet Riot years ago. Other than that, my life has been pretty vanilla.
