About Me
Karibu Moshi! 🏔️
My name is Thomas, a proud member of the Chagga tribe born and raised right at the foothills of Mount Kilimanjaro. I am a person who is deeply passionate about my roots, my community, and sharing the authentic Tanzanian spirit with the world.
Professionally, I am an entrepreneur and a local tour guide, so I spend most of my time exploring the beauty of our region. I am also the Co-founder of "Hoperising Village," a non-profit organization dedicated to improving lives in our community through environmental cleaning, charity work, and promoting cultural tourism.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
Why I’m on Couchsurfing:
I believe in the power of cultural exchange. For me, hosting isn't just about providing a bed; it's about building bridges between different cultures. I love teaching my guests about our local foods, our farming techniques (especially our famous coffee!), and the Chagga way of life.

Culinary Traditions: I can teach you how to prepare traditional banana-based dishes and show you the process of making Mbege, our famous local brew.
Local Exploration: I can take you to explore beautiful rural and urban areas around Moshi that most tourists miss. Adventure & History: I can organize day trips to hidden waterfalls near Mt. Kilimanjaro, relaxing hot springs, and significant historical sites. Language & Culture: I can teach you Swahili and share stories about the Chagga heritage.
What I Can Share with Hosts
What I can offer:
• Local Insights: Since I work as a guide, I can give you the best tips on hidden gems around Moshi and Kilimanjaro.
• Cultural Immersion: If you’re interested, you’re welcome to learn about our NGO’s work or even join us for a community activity.
• Language Exchange: I’m fluent in Swahili and English, and I’m currently practicing my German—so I’d love to practice with you!
