Hello!

I'm currently a graduate student at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, Michigan. I study environmental policy and the impacts of our conception of the 'economy' on ecology. More specifically, I am interested in how economic policy and practice can be better aligned with ecological constraints on a finite planet as opposed to exploitative and always growing, and how a good quality of life can be more evenly distributed around the world.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

As of summer of 2018, I'm here looking for places to stay in France, Spain, and Germany. I'll be traveling throughout August to attend some conferences in degrowth and alternative economics, staying with friends for some of the time, but I do have gaps in my schedule, and I would much rather learn and share space with locals than stay at a hotel (I'm also on a very tight budget!).

I've not had the fortune to travel much before, so this is my first foray into Europe. I'm doing my best to learn as much as I can in advance, but help along the way is appreciated!

Interests

I love to write, read, and observe the world around me. I'm a strong believer in simplicity, both in material lifestyle and in the mental realm. I try to find a balance between learning and letting my mind breathe. I enjoy staying in shape as best I can, eating good food, and spending time talking over a drink or two with friends. I'm most interested in hearing the stories of others - it's a great gift to be able to take in the multiplicity of perspectives that exist across individuals, regions, and cultures.
