Sobre Mim

Hi, nice to meet you! My name is Tom and I grew up in Cornwall, England and have spent the last five years living and studying in London. I have recently completed a History and Anthropology degree at Queen Mary University, London and am taking some time out before I pursue my Masters in another University.

I am a fun, laid back, adventurous guy who wants to experience as much as possible whilst meeting a tonne of people along the way! I am always keen to talk to people that I meet and love to share experiences/talk about topics from varying perspectives.

When travelling, I enjoy the tranquility and beauty of the outdoors as much as I enjoy the night-life and attractions which cities have to offer and find it important to experience both when I travel to a new country.

Por que estou no Couchsurfing?

Having heard of success from other friends, I decided to join Couchsurfing in order to better enhance my travels of the USA (and hopefully beyond). I have always loved staying with locals in places that I have travelled as it widens the ability to meet a wide variety of interesting people, and offers a huge range of insights and perspectives that can't truly be garnered from anywhere else; I'm a huge believer that guide books and tourist information centres can only offer so much!

When I am back in London I will be able to host. My experience in the US so far has taught me so much about how to host in an amazing way and I will aim to bring that enthusiasm and excitement back to the UK.

Interesses

My interest in History and Cultural Anthropology has stemmed from my studies. I consider the relationship between various cultures as an essential part of improving the future of global well-being .

Through studying for a year in Sweden and meeting people from the rest of the world, it became far clearer to me that talking to people and becoming close to people from around the globe is what travel is all about.

Músicas, Filmes e Livros

For music I would probably have to go for the pretty typical answer and say I like a really wide-range of stuff and will listen to mostly anything depending on what mood I'm in. I will add here though that if I do Karaoke I will almost certainly choose 'Ain't that a Kick in the Head' or something agonizingly cheesy like 'Don't You Want Me Baby'.

Similarly for films; I really do like a variety of different genres and don't really have a solid favourite. (However I have been known to make the argument after a few drinks that 'Ratatouille' is actually the greatest movie of all-time...)

Book-wise; since I was younger I have always had a soft spot for Terry Pratchett's work as 'The Colour of Magic' was one of the first books that I read. Other than that I love things from Orwell to - as everyone in the passed 6 years does - Martin. I think books that interest and grasp me most however are usually stories written by an author about their native countries - probably from my love of history. One I really recommend is 'A Fine Balance' by Rohinton Mistry.

Uma Coisa Incrível que Eu Fiz

In terms of experience, the most amazing one which I had was travelling to the Arctic circle in Northern Sweden. Whilst the weather was a chilly -42c, experiencing the Northern Lights whilst standing on a frozen lake with the clearest sky I have ever seen was special.

O Que Posso Compartilhar com Anfitriões

I hope that I can share a different perspective on life having grown up in a different culture. I am more than happy to cook for a host (something I love to do) or share a few drinks with them to say thank you!

I am also always happy to show people around when they come to London (or offer them a place to stay), or give them advice on where some great places there are to go to in an country that I've been to.
