O mnie
CURRENT MISSION
My current mission is to wait patiently for blueberries and wild strawberries.
ABOUT ME
So, I am suddenly in my mid-twenties [um, now late 20s!] and probably won't come to terms with that until my thirties. I do no know where the time has gone, but I have such great memories from it all. I love traveling because when you do it right and get the opportunity to meet people organicly, that is to say, not in a hotel or resort, then it's a learning experience.
I am currently living in Almaty, Kazakhstan, working as the coordinator for a study abroad program here. Although I am not a local, I would be very pleased to host people and show them parts of the city that they may find interesting. I have a deep love for the Russian language, so I am always willing to share those interests with others :-)
I live with a roommate, but during your stay he and I will stay in one room why you and your party have your own room to sleep in. My roommate is Kazakh. We're both gay and don't hide that, so please only come if you're ok with that.
Basically, I am a bit shy in spite of my love for traveling, but greatly enjoy the company of new people.
I'm not sure what else goes in this box, but I can assure you, should you ask me to host you, I will be glad to do so, and at the very least you can expect a response from me.
PHILOSOPHY
Dlaczego jestem na Couchsurfing
HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING
I open my home to travelers who for any reason at all don't want to waste their money on a hotel. I have a nice kitchen at their disposal, a fold-out couch, and a place to take a hot shower.
I'd be happy to show visitors around if I do not have to work, and am willing to help them buy tickets or whatever if their Russian is a bit rusty.
COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE
Couch surfing is obviously a great idea, not just because it saves people money when traveling, but because it makes your travels BETTER. I mean, if you want to get to know a place, then get to know the people who inhabit it. Buildings are cool too, but people are where culture really hides.
My first experience with couch surfing was when I was studying abroad in France in 2009. I decided I would bike across France for the hell-of-it. My trip would have been fun even if I had just stayed in hostels/hotels, but I had an unforgettable trip because of the people I stayed with along the way. Meeting them and talking to them at their table was for me a capstone experience, especially considering my main goal at the time was to study French, France, and French culture. There is no more informative way to travel than couch surf.
