About Me
CURRENT MISSION
To see the world and make friends everywhere in the world
ABOUT ME
My name is Thorvardur but I'm called Thorri among my friends which is also how I introduce myself when traveling abroad because of a pronunciation difficulties. I am currently studying Law at the University of Iceland. I might be available to show someone around in Iceland.
PHILOSOPHY
I want to get as much as possible out of life, I believe that no one can know the purpose of living so why bother spending your life searching for it. I have this life now and this life only as far as I know so I intend do use it to do as much as possible and see the world.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING
I have been surfing only so far but I'd like to stay active in this community although I live with my parents and am therefor not able to host. When I was volunteering in Kenya I met this couchsurfer who recommended couchsurfing as a way of making my traveling experience deeper so I got curious and wanted to try it out. I am completely new to this community but I feel excited to learn more about how this works. I think this could be something that I would be a part of in the future because I feel this is a great way to get to know and understand other peoples culture. This is probably a great way to make international friends and there is nothing more rewarding than friendship. My participation to others would most likely be sharing my first experience of couchsurfin with others.
COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE
I was living with a host family in Kenya for 6 months a volunteer in an orphanage in Nairobi. It is interesting to see how cultural differences can sometimes even make difficulties in communication with one another and how you have to give yourself into the others people way of thinking.
I have also couchsurfed in Tanzania and Zambia with a great experience, luckily I had discovered the African hospitality(ubuntu) before surfing otherwise I might have felt a litle uncomfortable being treated so nice by people I didn´t really know. I still keep in touch with some of those people.

Music, Movies, and Books
I'd have to say that Black metal is probably my favorit type of music genre but I also like everything from Operah to Death metal, from Hip-Hop to Symphony and Grunge rock to Dubstep or reggae to avant-garde.
My current favorite band the past years is called Deathspell Omega but I always have considered Iron Maiden to be one of my favorite bands too even though I don't listen to it as much as I used to
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
My travel in Africa has been the most amazing adventure in my life. Getting to know new culture, give of your self by volunteering and making friends all over the world. From almost being eaten by lions in Zambia, stomped by elephants in my tent at night extreme ant attacks to the simple things like being the only traveler around in Zimbabwe and watching the hauntingly beautiful stars at night and the bloodred sun sink into the horizon of Africa
Teach, Learn, Share
I think many people might find it interesting to hear more about my countries culture but in a country where the population is only 300.000 and everybody knows everybody a pretty strange culture is forced. I like chatting and getting to know more about other peoples culture.
