About Me
First things first: I can’t host because I’m kind of homeless right now. I’m only staying with friends and family, and I don’t have my own home, so yeah, technically i’m homeless.
Now about me...
I was born French, and I still am, my passport says so. I studied engineering, and I am an engineer, I’ve got a piece of paper that says so.
But the reality is a bit more complicated than that. To make it short, I worked 4 years as a mechanical engineer for a big international company: 2 years in Hungary and 2 years in Dubai. Then I quit and went to Namibia were I was a volunteer teacher for 2 years (I was teaching mathematics in a secondary school, and it was awesome). And now i’m back from Africa, wondering if I’ll go back and how, and what, and so on.
So i give English and French lessons on Skype while I figure these things out.
In a nutshell that’s me, defined my trajectory across the earth. But I’m of course much more than that! You’ll figure it all out when you meet me.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
I’ve been in CS for a long time and i used to be quite active: hosting and being hosted often when i was a student and even when i was in eastern Europe.
In Dubai i could not host because my flatmates were not really into it, but I was still in touch with the very active CS community there.
For the past 2 years, I was living in a small village in the middle of nowhere in Namibia, so not much CS there!
And now… we’ll see what the future brings, but i am still very attached to CouchSurfing. I met so many wonderful people through it, some whom we just spent a nice day with, and some who became long term friends. If there is one adjective that i would use to describe the people on CS (yes, that’s you!) it would be open-mindedness. And that’s a great adjective.
Interests
I realized that my interests shifted quite a bit with the years. A good summary would be: i used to want to discover places, and now i want to discover people. Yep i like it, sounds deep.
Music, Movies, and Books
Ah music! I love music and my two favorites are Led Zeppelin and Radiohead. But i’m open to anything as long as it good. I’ve been wondering for many years what good music is, and i still don’t know. You know it when you hear it man!
Movies, i have pretty mainstream tastes. One of my mission is to show the French movie Didier to as many people as i can (if you’re French and you want the English subtitles, contact me this instant!).
Books, i am discovering the joys of e-reading. I know some people are against it but i think it’s great, especially when you travel a lot. Again i don’t have very developed tastes in literature, give me some Jules Verne or Sherlock Holmes and I’ll be happy. Recently i loved A Thousand Splendid Suns.
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
Two years teaching in a public school in a small village in Namibia. Pretty amazing experience.
