About Me

CURRENT MISSION

To see the world with a new set of eyes each day

ABOUT ME

Hello, interweb-net. My name is Tim Howe. I'm from Bend, Oregon, I'm 20 years old, and attend school in Portland at Lewis and Clark College. I am currently in the process of completing a semester abroad, studying all over the beautiful countries of Kenya and Tanzania. This trip is my first time out of country, out of comfort, out of the ordinary.
I love to laugh. The only thing I love more than laughing is making others laugh. I am interested in finding the differences in culture we may hold, but am much more interested in our similarities.

PHILOSOPHY

If opportunity doesn't knock, build a door.
I feel like I know the secret to life, and I feel like you might too: Live your life, doing what makes you happiest, with the people that make you the happiest.
But it has to be very specific! Don't take any one part of this philosophy for granted. Live your life, (as long as you can) doing what makes you happiest (make sure it's a sustainable "happy") with the people that make you the happiest (happiness is only true when shared, after all).

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

Once I get back home, I would love to host people at my wonderful new house that I share with five of my best friends. We love new people and would love to let you into our little corner of the world. Portland is one of the most extraordinary and unique cities in the world, and I would be honored to show you around.
My friend and I will be in Amsterdam quite soon and we are looking for a place to stay. If you are interested, so am I. Lets talk about it.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

This would be a first for me. Love the concept and am ready and willing to experience whatever is thrown at me. I am a pretty relaxed dude, searching for good times with good people.

Interests

Ah jeez, where do I start?
I love drawing. It's one of my true, original loves. Don't be surprised if you see me doodling on scrap paper or notebooks during our meet.
I write and sing songs. I'm okay, I guess, but it's really not for anybody's benefit but my own. For me, music, especially music I create, is the best kind of therapy money doesn't have to buy.
That said, I love ALL music. Okay, that's not true, I'm not really down with pop-country or death metal, but anything in between, I pretty much dig it.
Travel. Oh, wonderful travel. I haven't really done much of it outside of the states, (in fact this Kenya/Tanzania trip I'm on right now is my first time our of country) but when I'm on the road, I feel wonderfully at home.
I run often. I was a pretty good runner in high school, now, not so much, but I can still bask in my glory days.
Recently I have become a lover of ultimate frisbee. My room mate is freakin' amazing at this sport, so I guess I really had no choice but to love it.
I love to bike. I bang myself up a lot, but, c'mon, what's a truly good bike ride without a few new scars?

Music, Movies, and Books

If you enjoy movies, music and books in general, and a good discussion about one or all of these, we'll probably get along. Most of my talk with good buddies is about just that.
Movies: Martin Scorsese, Wes Anderson, Fight Club, The Departed, Into the Wild, In Bruges, Rocket Science, Almost Famous, 12 Angry Men,The Wild One ,etc.
Music: Garge Rock, Folk and Hip Hop are my three favorite genres, but really anything that isn't pop-country or death metal is awesome. Tallest Man on Earth, Avett Brothers, Dr. Dog, Black Keys, White Stripes, The Autonomics,Jurassic 5, Dj Dangermouse, King Kahn and the Shrines, Cold War Kids, Bon Iver, M. Ward, Mos Def, etc.
Books: Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas, Life of Pi, On the Road, Walden, A Light in the Attic, etc.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

My recent home stays throughout Tanzania have been somewhat indescribable; I drank goats blood straight from a goat with the Maasai; I have hunted with the Hadza, one of the last hunter-gatherer tribes in the world; I have stayed with one of the most influential Swahili men in the world, Ahmed Sheikh. Ridiculous world.
