About Me

I'm laid back, nonjudgmental, and somewhat quiet by nature, which makes hosting and surfing a great way for me to meet people. The CS community is filled with amazing, inspiring folks, and I'm lucky to call a few of them my friends.

I have special admiration for other women and queer folks who have hosted and surfed before me, and I hope to meet more of them at home and elsewhere.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

Hosting couchsurfers helps me find meaningful connections that feed my wonder for our diverse cultures and experiences -- as well as our individual approaches to life. I still puzzle over who *I* am in a lot of ways, and there's so much I can learn from others.

As a host, I've been able to rediscover my home through the eyes of people who are experiencing it for the first time. I hope I can do the same favor for others as a surfer!

Interests

I'm an avid runner and enthusiastic hiker/biker, so I particularly enjoy doing outdoor activities with my guests. I also love to relax with a good book or video game -- particularly when I'm in good company.

Music, Movies, and Books

The Perennial Philosophy and the Tao Te Ching have been formative for my outlook. Going After Cacciato tells the story of a Vietnam-era infantry squad that goes on a long adventure and -- spoiler alert -- never leaves the war in a strict literal sense. I've had my share of journeys like that, and I'd like to complement my experiences with adventures of a more conventional sort. :)

I enjoy all kinds of music and movies, and I love to receive recommendations!

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

As a journalist, I used to cover international security and even broke some bits of news here and there. Talking to the U.N. Secretary General was a highlight of my last job.

Teach, Learn, Share

I love to show visitors around, but I also want them to have space to explore on their own. I'm learning to use a new camera and would love to photograph you with some local landmarks! I enjoy cooking with and for others, and I would love to learn a new budget- and travel-friendly recipe. :)
