About Me

Laidback guy, somewhat of a tech geek, really into music, philosophy...
I'm very open minded and love everything that's different.
Personally I am easy going, polite and a good listener.

I've lived most of my life in Lisbon, Portugal, where I was born, but I also lived from the age of 7 to 10 in Battersea, London.

I currently work as a programmer (mostly web app development) for the healthcare industry.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I'm interested in starting to travel more often and get to know people from around the world. I find myself having a need to just get out and see new things.

Meeting unique unordinary people brings colour to life. Knowing about peoples lives and the way they live and learning new cultures has to be some of the best things life can give you in this world!

I would like to hang out with locals because I think that's the best way to get to know the culture, and because they usually know where the must sees and the best places are to visit.

Interests

As I said above, I love music and philosophy. With that comes social science, politics, economy (just a little bit) and world history.

I've always been a science guy but I'm also extremely open to non-scientific views.

I'm an audiophile at heart, love studying my field (computer science), science in general (physics, electric and electronics).

Love going to music festivals.

My most recent hobby is vaping.

Music, Movies, and Books

I'm very eclectic when it comes to music. As a teenager I was just mostly into pop music. But then I found a whole new world in rock and electronic genres.
You can find almost anything on my mp3, from rock, blues/jazz/classical, electronic, r'n'b, hip-hop, and all their sub-genres.
You can find a list of some music I listen to on the following link (although there is a LOT missing and it's not accurate anymore since I don't scrobble that much anymore): http://www.last.fm/user/James_LX

I'm not that into movies or books anymore. I do like movies that make you think but that's so rare nowadays. Fight Club, Donnie Darko, American History X and Batman: The Dark Knight are some films that I really liked. Oh, and they don't do comedies like they used to! The Aeroplane saga was one of the best I recall.

I mostly watch youtube and some tv series. Some of the stuff I've been watching lately are: Simpsons/American Dad/Family Guy, Shameless (US), The Fosters and Gotham. Also loved Six Feet Under, Dexter, Skins, HIMYM...
I LOVE BRITCOM (Ab Fab, Goodness Gracious Me, Harry Enfield...)!

I read daily, mostly tech news or magazines, audio stuff, and some esoteric/psychology subjects.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Skinny dipping on the beach at night!

Teach, Learn, Share

I can teach you some Portuguese!

I would love to learn about your trips and adventures, go sightseeing and go to unexpected places that nobody goes to!

What I Can Share with Hosts

Me and a buddy of mine (age 23) like to travel. So most of the time I will be traveling with him. He's very unique and playful, very outgoing and likes to have a good conversation over some wine and a nice view!

We can share some of the most famous typical Portuguese dishes and some nice wine. Always up for a good laugh too.

Also, show you some of the best places to visit in Portugal.

Countries I’ve Visited
