Overview
About Me
Hi, I'm Tiago and I've done a lot of couchsurfing over the years. I've travelled to over 60 countries and have always been a lover of seeing new places, experiencing new cultures and most importantly, meeting new people.
The more I live life, the more I see the connectedness between all of us as human beings and travelling is invariably a wonderful way to gain an appreciation for this connectedness.
I run an online business that helps people set up businesses across the world and am now a permanent traveller. So while I cannot host, I can give you lots of travel tips about the numerous places I've visited, cook amazing food for you (a traditional Sri Lankan dinner is my go to) and in general offer great conversation and company. I'm also happy to help you in any way I can with my professional skills - setting up businesses and providing legal advice is what I do.
Outside of that, I enjoy a great many things - in no particular order, singing, dancing, reading, eating, going out, being with friends (new and old) and family, working out, yoga, cooking, cycling, writing, doing absolutely nothing, movies, music, planning trips and of course, going on them. Some of these are sporadic pasttimes, some are more regular. I enjoy the peace of doing what comes naturally and the words 'should', 'can't', 'always' and 'never' are disappearing from my vocabulary :)
The thing I am most interested in creating in this world is love. I have seen the power of what open communication can achieve - the breaking down of barriers from the past so that human beings are truly free to love each other and contribute to one another without fear or limitation as I believe our souls are, by nature, limitless.
So, I'm looking forward to meeting you, hopefully staying with you or offering what I can even by email or phone to contribute positively to you in some way :)
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
I'm on Couchsurfing because I love to travel, I love travellers and I love contributing to others. I love to learn new perspectives and provide a home for those who are on the road and I have had so many wonderful experiences on here, that I would love some more.
Interests
As mentioned above - , singing, dancing, reading, eating, going out, being with friends (new and old) and family, working out, yoga, cooking, cycling, writing, doing absolutely nothing, movies, music, planning trips and of course, going on them.
In addition to those - modern history, politics, languages, road trips. I'm sure I could think of more but this will do for now :)
Music, Movies, and Books
Autobiographies of Gandhi and Nelson Mandela, anything written by John Grisham. I'm starting to like Dean Koontz more and more with each book of his I read, but I honestly spend most of my time reading news online, through Al-Jazeera and the Sydney Morning Herald. I also like to read a lot of non-fiction.
I am a huge movie fan and honestly, I can enjoy nearly any movie that I sit down and watch. Again, I love movies in the non-fiction realm as well and some favourites I've had in the past in this regard are:
The War on Democracy
Why We Fight
The Corporation
I'm sure that gives you an idea of the kind of documentaries I watch.
I'm pretty easy when it comes to music and to be honest, I am not as aware or as up to date with music as most people of my age and generation. I generally get curious about a song after hearing it a few times if I like it, then find out the name of the song either by asking people incessantly or using Shazam on my iPhone - the iPhone really takes the mystery out of life, doesn't it? :)
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
Went on exchange to the University of Texas in Austin
Walked in the Notre Dame cathedral in Paris
Surfed in Portugal
Stood above Niagara Falls in Canada
Met an old, old school priest in Tallinn
Danced with an Olympian in Sydney
Seen the Blue Mosque and the Aya Sofia in Istanbul
Snorkelled on the Great Barrier Reef
Cooked and ate beef rendang in Indonesia
Experienced a beautiful day in Mui Ne, Vietnam
Changed the course of my life in Laos
Shared an amazing relationship with my father before he passed away
Visited the Antarctica Peninsula and saw more penguins that I could have ever imagined
Teach, Learn, Share
Being a lawyer, I have a fairly extensive legal knowledge so you can pick my brain about anything on that level. I have a decent knowledge of modern history, particularly European and American history but not to the point where I could really give any meaningful exposition on the subject. I'm a decent volleyball player and a fastly improving cook so perhaps if I came to stay with you, I could whip us up a very nice meal to say thank you. I've also been told I have a good outlook on life in general and provide excellent advice (though this is what others tell me).
