ABOUT ME

Hey all!

I'm Matias, though everyone calls me "Tias" and you may as well.

I'm a man of many interests, chief among them political activism, roleplaying, writing and music. I particularly dig post punk, wave music, punk rock, hardcore and metal, and if I need a couch it is often for a music festival - or, more rarely, for a meeting or workshop :)

I guess I have a sort of existential crisis, because I never know what exactly to add when asked to describe myself. I enjoy life, but am frequently scared by it when I see how other people mess it up for themselves and others. Denmark is a society that seems nice, but the nice exteriour hides a lot of abuse, violence and fear, and I'm sure people in other parts of the world sometimes feel the same way - We need to let all that go and make this earth a better place for ourselves.

Oh, and I'm not this depressing in real life :) I earnestly think meeting, communicating with, loving and understanding other people and cultures is a big step in getting ahead.

PHILOSOPHY

I do not contest the existence of a higher order in the universe. Jesus allegedly said "If you need a miracle to believe, you never will" (paraphrased), and that sums my opinion up pretty well - I do respect and admire the faith of others, mind you, but between my own perception of life and the bad things wrought by organized religion, I think faith is a personal matter.

On the secular world, however, I have a great deal of opinions. I am a class-conscious anarchist, and founded the largest Danish organisation of libertarian socialists there is (aptly named "Libertarian Socialists", and we can be found at http://libsoc.dk )).

As I see it, the majority of political and economic power is concentrated in the hands of very few people, namely the owners of great capital, and the heads of state who identify with their interests. This involves cutting jobs, wages and living standards for the great mass of humanity who aren't them, and a just and socially equal world won't be a reality until states and capitalism are abolished.

While I realise this can make me sound like a wide-eyed fanatic to some europeans who are exposed to working class riots, I assure you that I believe in what I do and mostly help organize strikes, boycotts and political campaigns of a more peaceful nature :) It takes all kinds, and all that.

I don't take morality that seriously, and live by the values instilled in me at a young age: Helping others by practicing random kindness, respecting your elders, be kind to animals and conserve water!

For this reason I live a primarily vegetarian lifestyle, and am concerned about environmental and street issues.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I've had 6-7 people stay with me through my collectives that have been CS members. Now that I live with two friends I'd like to keep doing it, as well as try to couch surf abroad, something I have done before!

Now I aim to give space to other couchsurfers, and see the world when I can find the money!

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

We've only hosted couchsurfers in my old collective, and most of the time it was a blast <3 On occasion we'd get rude folks or people who were hard to interact with, but people were usually nice, interesting and polite!

A thing that sticks out in my memory was this polish and lithuanian couple, who not only brought some textured vegetable protein for our kitchen, but left us with a bottle of this flouroscent green liquour named GREEN TIMES! I consider that name a stroke of genius, and it was a meme in our collective for some time - we'd see someone really happy or intoxicating, and conclude that they had 'green times'.

Interests

Music (arranging concerts, festivals), political activism (left-radical), history and the history of warfare, spirituality and magic, friends and family, online communications, roleplaying and (when I can be bothered) computer gaming.

Music, Movies, and Books

Going to drop a list of authors, as I rarely settle on one book :)

I don't read as much as I'd like to, but here goes.. A lot of different stuff here, from political theory through erotica to science fiction, new as old, find your own depth!

Dan Abnett, Mikhail Bakunin, Maurice Brinton, Philip K. Dick, William Gibson, Pyotr Kropotkin, Dennis Lehane, H.P. Lovecraft, Anais Nin, Bjarne Reuter, J.R.R. Tolkien, Stan Sakai, Haruki Murakami.

I'll add more when I get around to it!

Music, now there's a whoole lot. Punk rock and metal was my first love, and I still attend shows whenever possible. I get around though, and can just as likely be found listening to classical, jazz, hiphop, trance, folk or a myriad of other genres. Here, a long but by no means comprehensive list of bands:

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I'll have to pass on that single, sterling moment that made everything make sense. It doesn't exist, or I haven't been there.

The most amazing thing in the world, to me, is being near water on a calm, sunny day. It's as if that particular setting was made for reaching a state of zen awareness, and when I travel I search for beautiful, calm locales that make all the hiking and sitting worth while :)

Teach, Learn, Share

I know about military history, and my English is really well, I'd be happy to help out with homework if needed :)

My strength lies in knowledge of fiction (particularly roleplaying multiverses), and the theoretical and practical political sciences that I spend so much time with. I know a lot about the underground scene in Denmark as well, so please let me know if you need recommendations.

I am also a trivia buff, and know a whooole lot of useless things - ask, and I shall help!

What I Can Share with Hosts
