About Me

I’m Tieke, a jewellery artist. I’ve been hosting many Couchsurfers some years ago when I wasn’t able to travel much, so I discovered that inviting the world at my place is as wonderful as traveling. And later I started hitchhiking. It has been a while right now, because I have a daughter, but I feel that I still want to travel the way couchsurfers do.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I started Couchsurfing with a friend for a night in Helsinki.
Since then I started hosting in my house in Ghent. I've felt always on a holiday in my own house.
And inspired by them, I started travelling through Europe by hitch-hiking and Couchsurfing.
I moved to Brussels and Antwerp to discover other places in Belgium, because guests showed me the love for my own country.

Since I restarted school and I have a daughter, I’m not traveling anymore as I ever did. But when I have the opportunity I want to travel as I’ve done it before. Low-impact and easy (just by doing it, not expecting something big and being guided by the people I meet)

Interests

Ecology, making jewelry (which is funny because I hardly wear something), my daughter, sleeping (because I don’t do it enough probably)...

  • traveling
  • socializing
  • music
  • cycling
  • hiking
  • surfing
  • swimming
  • hitchhiking

Music, Movies, and Books

I can barely read or watch a movie.
But ‘Demain’ or ‘Tomorrow’ is a documentary I can definitely recommend.
And I could listen to Sigur Ros, Eddie Vedder and Angus & Julia Stone again and again and again.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I've Climbed For Life. A friend with cystic fibrosis could climb the Col du Galibier in the south of France. And I wanted to join her. Just by saying 'yes'. So I did it, without being prepared.
