About Me

CURRENT MISSION

to be a continually evolving entity

ABOUT ME

im a living thinking loving being! "i give my intensity and passion, in minute homeopathic spoonfuls, to the world"

PHILOSOPHY

1: HURL YOURSELF AT GOALS ABOVE YOUR HEAD
"I don't know just where I'm going
But Im gonna try for the kingdom, if I can
'cause it makes me feel like I'm a man
When I put a spike into my vein--I'll tell ya, things aren't quite the same" --The Velvet Underground

The Velvet Underground, theyre just great. I cant help but glorify what im sure is a drug addiction ... but i guess i dont see it as a drug thing. I think what it is--what i want it to be--is an illustration of the transient and electric properties of the mind body connection that ambition elicits.

2: WHATEVER YOU DO, WHEREVER YOU GO, GO WITH ALL YOUR HEART. Try your best, appreciate your efforts, and make the most of your experiences. I practice Ashtanga. I love yoga, i love what it teaches and i love what it makes me feel. Its this incredible way of finding out that you dont have to break boundaries and risk hurting yourself to do something that, in retrospect, you might realize is pretty silly. Yoga teaches you to challenge those boundaries while respecting your limits.

3. APPRECIATE SPONTANEITY
"In 1972 I was in the south of France. I had eaten some bad fish and was in consequence rather ill. As I lay in bed I had a strange recurring vision, there, before me, was a concrete building like a hotel or council block. I could see into the rooms, each of which was continually scanned by an electronic eye. In the rooms were people, everyone of them preoccupied. In one room a person was looking into a mirror and in another a couple were making love but lovelessly, in a third a composer was listening to music through earphones. Around him there were banks of electronic equipment. But all was silence. Like everyone in his place he had been neutralized, made grey and anonymous. The scene was for me one of ordered desolation. It was as if I were looking into a place which had no heart. Next day when I felt better, I was on the beach sunbathing and suddenly a poem popped into my head. It started out 'I am the proprietor of the Penguin Cafe, I will tell you things at random' and it went on about how the quality of randomness, spontaneity, surprise, unexpectedness and irrationality in our lives is a very precious thing. And if you suppress that to have a nice orderly life, you kill off what's most important. Whereas in the Penguin Cafe your unconscious can just be. It's acceptable there, and that's how everybody is. There is an acceptance there that has to do with living the present with no fear in ourselves." --Simon Jeffes

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

In 2010 I went to India, I completed five weeks of study abroad and four weeks of service with a micro-loan corporation that gave interest free loans to women from poor communities. The experience met and surpassed all of my expectations. Not only was every day I spent in India a testament of my capacity to hurl myself at goals above my head, each day I made small yet intimate realizations about my understanding of the world and my place in it. As the beautifully textured fabrics brushed against me while I walked through vibrant, loud and busy streets, my world became increasingly textured. The depth and meaning of diversity pleasantly nestled inside of me. There came a sense of awe at the beauty and complexity of the universe and consequently a deep reluctance to limit my experiences or beliefs to any one specific niche. There instead came a desire for openness. I wanted to learn about this way of life, about this political system, about this philosophy, to ultimately permute it with my beliefs.
