About Me

CURRENT MISSION

To fulfill the dream I've had since I was 14, which is to be free to go wherever and do whatever I want at a moment's notice

ABOUT ME

I like making, playing, and singing songs on guitar but I am actually pretty ignorant about actual music theory and history. I enjoy reading in kicks where I devour a large number of books for a few weeks at a time, mainly fiction with interesting plots and well-developed characters, as well as philosophy-tinged fiction. Getting outside to run or hike or climb trees and rocks is a big favorite of mine. I will eat anything that finds its way in front of me yet I try to consciously buy local and sustainably produced food while still not burning my wallet. I spend a lot of time alone as I seem to need the time to recollect myself, but when in a social situation I think I act as a sort of catalyst that takes someone's fun idea and ramps it up a few notches. Also, contra dancing. I love contra dancing. I've been dancing since November 2009 and I will dance with you till the cows come home. And that might take a while, considering I come from Greeley, Colorado, known colloquially as Cow Town. Despite my hometown's strong lean to the right I came out pretty left-leaning when I'm not centrist. Religion was never an issue growing up so I've sort of just pieced together my own sort of spiritual atheism. If you want to discuss anything, please, let's do so! I LOVE having stimulating and challenging conversations.

PHILOSOPHY

My basic rule is treat others as you want to be treated. I don't always follow through with this completely, but if nothing else I am pleasant to everyone. I'm not sure why we live or why I'm alive, but it seems plausible to me that figuring out why is part of the whole reason we're here, and I think the more you do and more you have to reflect on, the closer you get to figuring that out. I try to tell myself I'm a realist, and in some ways I am, but considering the infinite possibilities of this reality, I allow myself to think more interesting options are the truth, though I don't adhere to them as hard as the "realist" ideas. As a base, I think we have what we see and can perceive, and that is enough, but curiosity or dissatisfaction or something deep down like my soul tug at my mind and tell me there is something beyond the merely physical. So I entertain ideas but always in the light of practicality and realism.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I have been hosted and I have played host, all of it a grand experience. I am being moved by my inner travel-bug of late, so host me please!

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

Couch surfing has been like finding friends you didn't even know you had. It's humbling and exciting and a little sad that I've met many great people all over the states that I will only rarely get to see.

Music, Movies, and Books

The Name of the Wind, The Stand, The Fountainhead, anything by Chuck Palahniuk, Harry Potter. Elliott Smith, Beirut, Andrew Bird, Final Fantasy/Owen Pallet.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I saw sixteen bears driving up through Canada to Alaska as well as bison, bighorn sheep, mountain goats, elk, and deer. I've been in I e caves and seen down a miles long fjord from the top of a mountain. I have seen both ages old cities and pristine wildnerness undreamt of my man. I've seen dancers dancing and musicians playing, handsome men and beautiful men and so much kindness my heart doesn't know what to do with itself.

Teach, Learn, Share

Do what you feel. To that end, allow yourself time for stillness so you can listen to that inner drum beat in your heart, directing you where you need to go.

Don't worry too much. Even the most awful situations tend to instrumental in learning invaluable lessons you could never have learned otherwise.
