About Me

artificial intelligence. piano. ukulele. longboard. scuba. dancing. linux.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

Let's be honest, I originally joined couchsurfing because I was looking for a free bed when I needed it. Shame on me. However, I got to really like the concept. If you're travelling alone, it's hard to find people helping you out when you're clueless, or giving you tips, or just being open for a conversation. CSer are all of this.!

Interests

I got my Masters degree in computer science in May. Therefore, my main interest (from a career point of view) is .... computers! Who would've thought that? Computers are really cool, seriously! In my studies I focus on Artificial Intelligence / Evolutionary Algorithms / Deep Learning (though I have to admit that the latter scares me from time to time), which currently is the hot topic in science.
Research in AI / Machine Learning is heavily connected to the learning aspects of psychology and neuroscience, so I love to learn about these topics, too.

Enough talking of my future career. If I'm not at university, I mostly hangout with my friends at home (playing board games), or in a bar, or in a club. Also, I got a longboard last year, but my home city has only one proper longboard trail, so this became kinda boring after some time. If your place has some cool trails, let me know!

I play piano. I had my last lesson over 6 years ago, but somehow managed to keep up with practising. I'm a big fan of Chopin, and enjoy modern composers like Einaudi or Frahm.
Oh I almost forgot: I'm a self-taught ukulele player. But don't expect too much :D

I started scuba diving a few years ago and fulfilled my dream of diving the Great Barrier Reef in 2016. Unfortunately, Germany is not the best country to dive, so my number of dives is still low. :-/

I got in working out some years ago, but am currently struggling with an injury of my wrist, soo yeah. Let's see where that goes to...

I enjoy a good cup of coffee or tea and am always looking for new cafés. I like these small, unique places with old furniture and stuff. :)

Music, Movies, and Books

Well that's not an easy question. For dancing in a club, I'd say Electro, House and Black. Techno is sometimes fine, too. For playing piano, I mostly play classical pieces or modern compositions. I tried to get into Jazz, but that's too tough for me right now...

I'm not a big movie guy. I have Netflix, but mostly watch series. I also mostly lost track of reading books, but the last book I read was "Thinking, fast and slow" by Kahneman. Really interesting book. I recommend it.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I've done skydiving and paragliding and caving and stuff. Also I have two scientific publications, which I'm kinda proud of :)

Teach, Learn, Share

I'm happy to share my knowledge and enthusiasm about artificial intelligence / machine learning. Also my love to music.
