À propos de moi

While in college, I got the travel bug during a summer in Guatemala and a semester abroad in Spain. After graduating from college, I worked in the pharmaceutical consulting industry for four years, but during the whole time I was working, I was always thinking in the back of my mind where my next trip would be.

I quit my job in 2011 and spent 13 months backpacking around Asia and Africa. When I returned, I started a new career as a teacher, and now teach high school math for 10 months of the year, and try to travel as much as I can in the summer.

Now I'm married and have a baby, but I still hope to continue my travels, just in a slightly different manner!

Pourquoi je suis sur Couchsurfing

When I first joined CS in 2005, I thought it was about a free place to stay (as do many new members). In the years since, I've been blown away by how much more than that it is. I love the connections that you make with people all around the world, whether it's by staying with a host in a foreign country, or just hanging out with fellow couchsurfers in my own city. Many of the places I've traveled to, I could have easily gotten a cheap hostel for very little money, and wouldn't have had to worry about sending out requests and getting to internet to check on them. But, taking the money piece away, if I were given the choice between a free bed in a hostel and a CS host, I'd take the CS host every time. I could go on and on about great experiences, including:

- The D.C. CS community, who had a weekend full of events that I joined when I went down there for Obama's inauguration, even though I didn't need a place to stay.
-My host in Bangkok who then traveled with me and her other CSers to Southern Thailand for the Full Moon Party.
- My London hosts who took me out to an awesome concert in Brixton.
- The first time I met the Boston community, when I arranged to be picked up from a gas station by a girl I'd never met, to go up to NH to the house of one of the members for a weekend of camping and tubing down the river.
- My German surfers who decided they wanted to "eat like an American," so after we finished our meals at a restaurant, we ordered two more entrees to share among us.
- The German couple who, after staying with us, hosted us in Germany. Instead of CSing, it just felt like visiting old friends!

The list goes on and on and on...

I've surfed in Valencia, Paris, L.A., Philadelphia, San Francisco, Montreal, Chicago, Mumbai, Udaipur, Nairobi, Bangkok, Saigon, Battambang, Kuala Lumpur, Yogyakarta, Singapore, Amsterdam, London, Minneapolis, Berlin, Prague, Munich, and Nuremberg. I've hosted various people from the US, Germany, Canada, Australia, France, Denmark, Italy, Poland, South Korea, Belgium and maybe a few other countries. I also am active in the Boston CS community, frequently going to meetings, parties, etc. I plan to meet up with the CS communities in all the cities I pass through during my travel.

Une aventure extraordinaire que j'ai vécue

Quit my job and backpacked for 13 months around Africa and Asia. Highlights include living with a Nepali family for a month and then trekking for 3 weeks in the Himalayas, spending the night looking down into the crater or an active volcano in the Congo, learning to SCUBA dive and then going diving in Sipadan. I could go on for a while...

Enseignez, apprenez, partagez

I can teach you about Boston, about the Red Sox, and how to play go. If we're camping at a meetup somewhere, I can teach how to build a fire, tie knots, and other useful outdoors skills. I'd love to share a drink with you when you get in, so in your request, tell me your favorite drink!
