ABOUT ME

I"m a thirty something sustainable architecture designer and builder living in a radical ecovillage in Rural Missouri.

I keep a full life; I'm currently finishing construction on two homes; one is a green building and the second is a natural building (strawbale), and raising three children, two of whom are teenagers.

In between breaths, if I'm feeling social, I like to engage in great conversation with my friends, organize a party, or let loose my silly side. When I feel more introspective, I like to relax at home and listen to great music, take a walk in the prairie and woods, or let myself get lost in my thoughts.

I process things out loud. Often, I talk about something for a minute, only to have my friends sum it up in two to five words. It's so frustrating that I can't always do it myself, and so gratifying when I can.

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I love to have folks visit DR, our intentional community! I also love to travel, and to travel in a way that I actually get an understanding of how the people who live in a particular place relate to it. I'm not interested in the tourists' view of a place. Coushsurfing is a natural way to provide that exchange.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I'm a couchsurfing newbie, but I've had two great experiences thus far, and I'm looking forward to enjoying more, both as a surfer and as a host.

I love to dance, design buildings, travel consciously, play, push my own boundaries, and live my life working to save the planet.

I get weak in the knees for vegan sweets, including chocolate, ice cream, pecan pie, chocolate cookies. When my sweet tooth has been sated, I love fruit, vegetables, and a variety of Japanese foods, in that order.

I don't spend enough time outside apart from my construction site, but when I do, I like to kayak, cycle, and stroll through it's brilliance.

I tend to watch little, if any, television- however I'm in love with Tim Roth in Lie to Me, and I get a kick out of House on House, MD. My interests in movies are broad, but tend to be particular; I don't want to waste my time watching most of the garbage that comes from Hollywood. I appreciate quality films that provide twists (the usual suspects, the shawshank redemption) or deep insights into characters during the film, like vertical ray of the sun. I do also enjoy a light romantic comedy every now and then too.

My music interests move in cycles. Right now, the rhythms I'm most interested in are the ones I enjoy dancing or singing to; Natalie Merchant, Norah Jones, John Mayer (my new boyfriend :)), Jack Johnson, Sarah Harmer, Krishnas Das, Joanna Newsom, Allette Brooks, Joseph Phillips JR, Juana Molina, Dar Williams, Don Caballero, The Chemical Brothers, Mates of State, Magnetic Fields, and Nickelback (even though my most trusted daily companion hates them so I never get to listen to it).
I've also been listening to my friends Caiden and Alex, who write their own songs. I love to hear music from people who express their soul through their singing.

Currently, my favorite author is Colin Beavan aka No Impact Man. I love him! David Sedaris makes me laugh so hard I cry. I also love handwritten cards and letters, and long, detailed emails filled with stories, with a compliment at the end meant just for me.

I traveled around the country for two years as a family of 5. One year we traveled in a '67 Volkswagen Bus, and the second year was in a 24' trailer sailboat. We had a great time, and a lifetime of experiences in that little bit of time. Then I joined an ecovillage, and learned the whole new meaning of living life largely!
