Overview
About Me
CURRENT MISSION
To improve, though I get stuck sometimes.
ABOUT ME
Truth seeker, skeptic, atheist, gardener, engineer, mathematician, physicist, material experimentalist.
I have protested the Iraq war since its inception and attempt to contribute as little to the DOD as possible. I have volunteered for http://prioritiesnh.org in the past.
This is the most open I've been on the web. For instance my website http://www.BandTechnology.com is pretty impersonal. So, I see this step of entering couch surfing as an attempt to change some of that. It takes a bit of courage for me to do.
I am stuck on trying to be self sufficient. Everything that needs doing I try to do myself so I am very independent but also somewhat disfunctional this way. More than half of my garden is from seed that I save myself. I dry blueberries and make maple syrup. I cut my own firewood, last year with handtools. I sometimes grind corn I grew on a rock. I turned my hot water heater off about two years ago.
PHILOSOPHY
You want me to put my personal philosophy down in this little box? There is one thing that I am working on resolving because it is so troubling; that is that the human race seems to give itself too much credit. We should consider our limitations more carefully. Perhaps then we can take a new position in the progression. I am sick of nationalism. I am a citizen of the world.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING
This seems a bit like hitch hiking. The times I've gotten a flat on my bicycle I try to thumb a ride but nobody picks me up, except rarely. I try to pick up hitchhikers sometimes because I know how it is. I do like the idea of helping out a stranger, but especially a quality interaction is meaningful to me because it can help wake me up and renew my hope for the human race.
COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE
So far I've been couch surfing once at Phil's in Portland, ME. It was great to meet and exchange thoughts on the state of the world and our lives and philosphies.

Music, Movies, and Books
I have a poor music collection and a poor music vocabulary. But I do have a good ear and can tune a guitar. I'll tune, you play. Movies likewise. Books, err... likewise for fiction.
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
After I graduated from college I sailed a Hobie 16 down the coast from Dover NH to North Carolina. I wanted to make it to Florida and perhaps further, but got weathered out. Maybe I'll try again.
Teach, Learn, Share
I have many back yard projects from stonework, gardening, occasionally trying to make primitive pottery, wood handles for my tools, etc. I collect materials from the local dump. It's amazing what people throw away but I don't think it's going to be like that for much longer.
