About Me

CURRENT MISSION

To make every day an adventure and always find a reason to smile :)

ABOUT ME

I'm Tim! I love reading, writing, travelling, thinking, eating... basically I love being alive.

I think one of the best things in life is talking to people. Whether it's just some random person you met on the bus that'll never see again or your closest friend, some of the most beautiful moments come when you interact with other and new people! So basically, I really want to just meet people all over the world and be amazed at how varied the world is.

I was supposed to be returning to University in September, but I hate my degree so I figured I'd take a year out to try and find something more meaningful and more fun to do with my life! So, I've kinda got nothing going on right now and am open to all opportunities and bizarre ideas. This quote sums it up quite nicely:

“Unexpected travel suggestions are dancing lessons from God” Kurt Vonnegut

So - if you've got any crazy suggestions or ideas to do cheaply or whatever, then suggest them to me and the chances are I'll probably be up for it!

Until early 2010 I had never left the country or been on a flight, so I decided that I wanted to change that. I've only ever travelled alone, thus far. I like to live my life with minimalist principles, attempting to push out the unnecessary extras and possessions that tend to gravitate around me. This means I also really love to travel light! One bag, packed with just enough is more than enough for me!

PHILOSOPHY

If you can't laugh at yourself then life is going to seem pretty depressing. I like to find the positives or the funny things in situations.

Experiences are SO much more valuable than things.

We already have everything we need to enjoy and live life. We don't need to buy the latest gadget, the highest fashion or the biggest house to have an amazing time. The more things we strip away out of our lives, the clearer we can see the things that matter.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I've never used couchsurfing before, but am really up for it! I'm a little bit nervous & unsure how to go about using it, so I'm sorry if I get it wrong, haha. But yeah, it sounds like the perfect way to travel, so I'm looking forward to getting better acquainted with it!

Interests

Seeing new and amazing stuff, talking to people who know lots about things I've no idea about and learning from them, writing and reading, listening to and writing music, really great food & new cuisine. Oh, I love tea!

I really enjoy books that are about people going on adventures/doing something amazing with their short time on earth. I get really excited when I talk about things like that. Come to think of it, I get really excited whenever I talk about anything I love!

I speak/read & write a very small amount of German - I would really love to be able to expand my skills here and learn to speak German conversationally. If you think you can help with this, I would be so grateful!

Music, Movies, and Books

Some of my favourite authors right now are Thoreau, Murakami, Twain, Kerouac, Orwell. I really love adventure books, stuff like Into the Wild or The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn.

Music is quite a big part of my life. At the moment I've been listening to a lot of ambient music, plus a good dose of indie rock, electronica, techno, and shoegaze. I LOVE Shoegaze music. Some of my favourite artists are Bombay Bicycle Club, Boards of Canada, SBTRKT, Clark, Burial, Hammock, I Break Horses, Imogen Heap, Jonsi and Alex, Sigur Ros, Radiohead, Mount Kimbie, Einaudi, the XX, Yo La Tengo, Youth Lagoon

I don't really watch many movies, but I usually love them when I do. I'm open minded and will watch anything. I like old like 50s and 60s movies because they are awesome! I also really love comedy as I love to laugh (I'm a pretty jolly person). I love shows like Peep Show, Spaced, Black Books, Jam, Brasseye, Community

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

- sledging above Oslo at night overlooking the city, with every turn there was a beautiful view of shimmering lights

- landing in hofn, iceland, and realizing how truly barren a place iceland's wilderness can be

Teach, Learn, Share

I'm studying music production, so computers & music is something I know a fair bit about. What really interests me though is the thinking behind it all, why people listen to certain types of music, why do people interact with computers the way that they do? I also love to constantly analyze the world around me, understand what makes it tick. With regards to learning, I want to learn about anything you care enough to teach me about!

Countries I’ve Visited
