About Me
CURRENT MISSION
To have a life full of jokes and laughter. And do some good along the way.
ABOUT ME
I started loving to travel when I was a little boy and my parents would take us on holidays. I had my first truly independent trip when I put on an oversize backpack at set out across Europe at 17 and never looked back.
Now some years down the line I have seen a few places and met some amazing people.
Apart from travelling I am a talkative and sociable person who loves a good yarn, as well getting to know someone on a deeper level.
I like to be always busy and not find myself hanging about.
I enjoy contemplating any topic from any standpoint. I am open minded and find new opinions and ideas fascinating.
I love a good story especially a true one.
Games be they board, computer, card, dice, word, logic or even life - are all amazing.
PHILOSOPHY
Keep trying and keep going.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
I love to host people in my home. I have experienced the generosity of so many, who am I not to pass that on now I am fortunate to have my own home.
Some examples
Nick from Baku who took on an newbie couchsurfer into his penthouse.
In Kazakhstan, Dan and I spent many a night with some beers and having a good time as the Siberian winds blew winter across the steppes.
All my visitors in Phnom Penh saving me from my cooking.
Interests
If it's a game I'll play it,
If it's a idea I'll explore it,
If it's a place I'll visit it.
Music, Movies, and Books
Anything but horror really.
Everything from Henry Miller to Thor Heyerdahl can interest me.
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
Experienced generosity at it's best from the plethora of travellers and locals alike, from the UK getting on the train in the face of bureaucracy to a Kazakh with some floor space as dusk fell showed me the delights of meeting strangers.
Teach, Learn, Share
I guess I have quite a bit of travel experience to share with anyone who is passing by the places I've been.
I also keep what most people consider square headed accounts of everything I spend so for instance I can tell you that I paid 42p for 2 sodas in Tanzania in 2005 and 54p for the same sodas in 2012, inflation of 3.7%/yr isn't bad.
Also can teach some Lindy Hop if you are keen.
What I Can Share with Hosts
Stories about travelling and help with Central Asian visa procedures! The aches and pains of living in a place where you don't understand the language. How to change a lightbulb. General DIY and fixing things.
