Promoting the Piano and the Language of Music!

ABOUT ME

Right now I am in the midst of a fundraising campaign to raise awareness about music education being cut from schools, centered around the piano! Check out:http://kck.st/iP5N3n

My extended family is very important to me, and that concept transcends one geographical place. I am in a transition in my life right now, as a daddy to an amazing little boy, as well as other ways. This has been both the most awakening and humbling experience of my life at once. I am away from my almost-2 year old who lives with his mom (my ex) on the island of Maui. I am on the mainland until I can get enough funds saved up working as a CMT on an established clientele based in SF and establish my family art business sufficiently to return and be the best daddy I can be. Hopefully soon. In the meantime, I have been building a family business (amazing art by my parents in Colorado- check out http://www.rdvanvliet.com )

PHILOSOPHY

I look for the best in and allow others to be their boldest, most beautiful selves and try to mirror that in myself. Most of the people I surround myself with have that same underlying attitude.

I look for the best in and allow others to be their boldest, most beautiful selves and try to mirror that in myself. Most of the people I surround myself with have that same underlying attitude.

I have a strong appreciation and awareness of community, which has been informed by my living amongst so many blessed people throughout my life in different places. My experiences on the playa, Black Rock City, has been an amazing catalyst for that since 2004. Couch Surfing seems in line with Burner ethos and attitude, which weaves its way through so many groups and individuals and tickles me to witness in places beyond that event.

I have hosted people in the past when I have been more situated and look forward to the time when I am able to do so again.

More importantly these days, I love to network and help out when I can; like if you come to the SF Bay, want to get to know the wonderful "underground" culture here.

我做过的一件不可思议的事情

-Chased a woman 4000 miles to Alaska, had my heart broken, and had an awesome time anyway.

-Biked and hitched and trained a loop from Denver to Olympia to Santa Cruz and back.

-Gotten into many a concert for free (including a backstage epic with The Who in 1996 for the Quadrophenia Tour, for which I am writing a book).

I am a balance of merry prankster and boddhisattva. Some call me (Tim) a chameleon. I defy categorization! I categorize defiance! I miss Letterman the way he was in 1987. I am rarely around a TV, I am into an eclectic cross-section of musical, visual, conceptual arts. In recent times I have become more aware of something metaphysical like "dreamspace manifestation" or The Secret. Minor miracles (and some major) and coincidences have become more commonplace in my life.
I am someone who has always had his feet in different worlds and appreciates the juxtaposition of opposites. My educational background is in anthropology and ethnomusicolgy; I subscribe to an artistic perpsective which assumes universality and I get away with that living in the Bay Area. I moonlight as a underwear model and would not be opposed to acting (oh, you just wait). I was drafted into some crazy Vaudeville renaissance improv performance troupe. I lead an adventuresome life and pretend like I know what I am doing. I try to live in the moment. I am blessed by many great people in my life and a wonderful community. I'm committed to making the world a better place and promoting a positive perspective of the problems we face. I also have a sense of humor, which is a healing force in itself. Finally, I feel for every child now that I am a parent, and this is amplified when I am away from my boy, like now.
