CURRENT MISSION
find out how to make the best out of one day in burlington
ABOUT ME
I am the one you want to play the "what to do with 1 million?"-game with, seriously, i can do that for hours. After doing a phd in applied math in the beautiful city of Freiburg im Breisgau, i moved to nearby Zurich in Switzerland one year ago to work in the research department of big blue. I guess that makes me a nerd, but one with more than three dozen countries on his travel record:)
PHILOSOPHY
I think that there are four things that one should know before going to other countries: languages, music, soccer and smiling. The importance of languages is obvious. Music, because it is the most general of all languages. Sadly, I do not get it. Soccer, because there is no other sports game that is played everywhere in the world. This point is under work. And if you do not know any of these three things, then smile, because a smile is the shortest connection between two persons. Smile, and the world smiles at you! But even smiling is not always possible, especially on photos.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING
I hosted quite some couchsurfers while still living in Freiburg. Found out recently that my flatmate is also couchsurfing-affiliated, so lets see how things turn out in Zurich.
COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE
100% positive
Interests
I enjoy drawing, drinking coffee, hiking, reading, mathematics, and talking nonsense in general (hard to find a competent sparing partner in this respect, while people for "serious" talks are so common). Needless to say that i also like meeting people, traveling, watching movies, and all the other things everybody likes.

Music, Movies, and Books
I really like reading, but its hard to name my favorite books. However, during the last fifteen years, i read the following three books at least four times (although not recently), so i guess i liked them: "Buddenbrooks", "Lord of the Rings", and "Solaris". Books read only three times don't count. Movies are easier, my favorite two movies are "Blade Runner" and Monty Python's "The Search for the Holy Grail" (that pretty much represents my taste of movies).
I recently read "The first man" of Camus, not my "favorite" book, but a book i really liked. One of these books that get you into some special mood, you have to read the last chapter twice, and then lean back to let the pictures pass.
