About Me

CURRENT MISSION

I'm currently busy being a full time student, wife, and musician!

ABOUT ME

I love music. I'm a Flute Performance major and thus spend a large majority of my day in a little padded white box. They tell me it's a practice room. I'm not sure I should believe them....I got married when I was 18 to my wonderful husband who also goes to college with me. We're vegetarian and very religious--not fanatical, however. Both of us are a bit cluttered; paper piles up on the table, and clean laundry on top of the dryer.

PHILOSOPHY

I believe we should live our lives to love and serve God. I don't do that as well as I should, but I will always try!

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I just joined. I think it's an awesome idea, not sure how much I have time to run with it yet, but I'm certainly open!

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

The closest thing to it is on Band Tour. We have 90ish in our band (one of the best college bands in the nation!) and while on our annual tours around the country, we'll often have "home stays" where members of the audience take us home in pairs or quads, give us a snack, a bed, and then breakfast. My experiences have ranged from just that (and an awkward encounter with their naked oldest son in the morning!) to a pair of empty-nesters who took us to see everything of interest in the town, played cards with us till 2am and then had a veritable feast the next morning, complete with arranged platters of fruit.

Those home stays are one of the most enjoyable parts of tour--I love being able to give my music to them and then not only really see that they enjoyed it, and recieve such generosity in return, but also to really get to know the area of the country we're in, instead of simply driving through it.

Interests

I have a wide range of interests, from video games to weaving, to cooking, to website coding (my husbands' better than I am). I couldn't live without books--I tried War and Peace the first time when I was 10. Lord of the Rings became my favorite book of all time when I was 6.

And then, of course, music. Sound is the primary way I relate to the world, and there's very few kinds of music I don't listen to. Classical music, though, has a power that no other music I've ever heard has, if you know what to listen for. I play lots of instruments, mainly flute, but also guitar, banjo, mandolin, the entire saxophone family, piccolo, recorder (both Renaissance and Baroque), and enough to play my scales on everything else.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I was on the 2005 Jeopardy! Teen Tournament. Learned so much and met so many amazing people!
