About Me

ABOUT ME

Imperfection is beauty, madness is genius and it's better to be absolutely ridiculous than absolutely boring.

So here I am on Couchsurfing, trying to make my life just a little more ridiculous!

PHILOSOPHY

Let's make the most of this great cosmic accident that we exist, eh? :D "Get busy living, or get busy dying."

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

Went on some crazy picnics at the top of abandoned theme park towers with the CS crew in Beijing; couchsurfed in Taiwan and Hong Kong with some of the most lovely humans.

Interests

sipper of tea, skater of boards, connoisseur of memorable ideas/personalities/moments, slightly irrational taker of risks, avid petter of cats/ferrets/rabbits/furry mammals, addict of chocolate, hiker of hikes, biker of bikes, accidental rhymer of rhymes, and lover-hater of politics/philosophy/literature.

Music, Movies, and Books

Movies? I'm kind of a sucker for historical dramas that address social/political issues with sad but realistic endings and make me angry about the world, hahaha. Yeah, Netflix should make that a category.

Three Idiots, Amadeus, Memoirs of a Geisha, Midnight in Paris, The Pianist, Avatar. Romantic comedies are my pet peeve; if you force me to watch them with you, you'll have to suffer through my cynical commentary where I complain about how none of that would happen in real life. (It wouldn't...) *pukes*

Books! I'm kind of an extreme bookworm, but for the most part have only been exposed to English language literature. (Show me something new?) Favorites include "Beloved" by Toni Morrison, "Einstein's Dreams" by Alan Lightman, "The House on Mango Street" by Sandra Cisneros, "Things Fall Apart" by Chinua Achebe. The Harry Potter series and Warriors series (you know, those books about the cats with funky names who live in the wild together...) were childhood favorites (but let's be real, they're still favorites). I'm currently reading "Spirits Rebellious" by Khalil Gibran.

MUUUSIC! Unfortunately, I'm mostly familiar with English music (introduce me to something new?!), but I love most genres -- especially indie, alternative, jazz... most things sound better acoustic. I would admit that I also occasionally enjoy listening to Gregorian chants for like three minutes per month but you would think I'm really weird. But I do. Please still be my friend haha. ^__^ I'm not great, but I love to sing -- so if anyone has a guitar around here, let's jam!

ART! :) Banksy is basically my hero in life for wresting art from the world of museums and galleries and using it to call for peace and political change. Speaking of street art, I also really like Shepard Fairey's style. Ai Weiwei I have mixed feelings about, but he's pretty clever and I respect that he has guts.

In regards to old dead white male European peoples' art, I love Van Gogh, Degas, Dali... post-impressionism and expressionism are probably my favorite movements. (Do I sound like a snob right now? But really, we can talk art!)

I used to think buildings were just utile chunks of rock and steel you can eat and sleep in and whatnot, but I've been gaining a taste for architecture too. Stained glass windows are the shit.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Nothing exceptional? Got lost in the Grand Canyon (Arizona, USA) at age 7, was tricked into touching a dolphin, biked 220 miles in three days through rural China, bungee-jumped over a river, hang-glided off sea cliffs, camped on an abandoned stretch of the Great Wall, picnicked on an abandoned amusement park tower, ridden a six-foot longboard, climbed an active volcano from 3am to sunrise...

What I Can Share with Hosts

I will do ALL YOUR DISHES! I promise! If you have ingredients around, I can also make American chocolate chip cookies or cook a Chinese dish. :D

I can do a photographic portrait session with you at home or somewhere around town! Usually I get paid to do this, but from you, dear host! (; It'd be fun! https://500px.com/zootea
