About Me

CURRENT MISSION

To make this world a better place with my small contribution, in any way I can, as simple and as difficult as that.

ABOUT ME

"Jump to your feet, wave your fists,
Threaten and warn the whole universe
That your heart can no longer live
Without real love!"

Hafiz

I would define love simply: as a potent blend of openness and warmth wich allows us to make real contact, to take delight in and appreciate, and to be one with - ourselves, others and life itself. Openness - the heart's pure, unconditional yes - is loves essence. And warmth is love's basic expression, arising as a natural extension of this yes - the desire to reach out and touch, connect with and nourish what we love.

So obviously, I am a romantic idealist but also a sceptical, rather melancholy realist who tends to think the bottom of the glass isn't even covered. But that doesn't mean I am not fun to be around.

I am warm, outgoing, sensitive and emotional (more on the tearful, sentimental side than temperamental. I am intelligent in some ways and incredibly stupid in some. But by and large according to my own opinon and that of my friends, family and students. I'm pretty good to be human.

And so are you, I firmly belive!
That's why you are most welcome in my life. As the miracle of being that you are, as my Dear Guest.

PHILOSOPHY

I live for love, learning and friendship. I think that life is about learning to love better, I know this might sound naive but it's exactly what I think and feel. It's a simple philosophy but not so easy to practise always since people (and that includes moi) can be really annoying. If very upset , I might hit you. But only with a flower.

Life to me is about growing to understand things and others. About being who I am and letting others be who they are (and only try to weed out the most obnoxius types of behaviour).

My favourite quote is by Leonard Cohen "There is a crack in everything. That's where the light comes in."
I think we are more loveable because of our beautiful flaws than for our perfection. So tolerance and sympathy is what we need.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I have bben doing this for a couple of years now and have only great experiences! I love the general idea behind the community!

I am not in the best of health unfortunately and sometimes turn surfers down just for being tired and not being able to be the good host I want to be. But a lot of the times I seem to manage anyhow and that makes me really happy. Since my guests have all been a joy to meet. I really wouldn't want to miss out completely.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

Not yet, but I have always tried to be kind and generous and helpful to strangers, both on principle and and by inclination. I love helping people out, make new friends and aquaitances, for mutual learning, happy , interesting and exciting experiences. prefer to really get to know one country at a time a bit deeper, so I don't have the ambition to go to a lot of countries.

Interests

My passions are language and literature, art, music, cultural stuff in general. I am not the hiking type, or very sporty, but still love nature and it's wonders. I have a very special love for plants, love gardening and growing things, so I prefer climates were lot's of things grow. I am a bit of a "plant rescuer" and "plant whisperer", good at making depressed and unhappy plants find the courage and motivation to go on.

Music, Movies, and Books

I have a very varied taste in music, I am big fan of Leonard Cohen, I love poetical lyrics as well as the music. Classical, music (great fondeness for early music medieval, renaissance, John Dowland means a lot to me), blues, soul (Otis is king),chanson, world music, folk, jazz.

When it comes to art and literatur I am very eclectic, but as with music, I have a penchant for early and classical literature as well. great names on my list are Sapho, Ovidius, Dante , Petrarca, Shakespeare, Cavalcanti, The French medieval troubadours, Virginia Wolf, Villon, Lorca, Neruda, Shakespeare, Szymborska,Milan Kundera, Stendahl,Raimbaud,William Blake, Anne Sexton, Elfriede Jelinek, Thomas Bernard, Cioran, Emily Dickinson, the Bronte sisters, Jane Austen, Dostojevski, Margurite Duras, Walt Whitman, DH Lawrence, Douglas Adams,Paul Auster,Hafiz, Rumi, Farrouk FArrokzad , Jorge Amado,Adonis, Mahmoud Darvish, Kirkegaard, Schopenhauer, Nietszhe (probably misspelled, to lazy to check), Hamsun, Ibsen, Laxness, Strindberg, Suzanne Brögger, a bunch of Swedes, Danes and Norweigians of whome most haven't been translated yet oh nooo, this will be too long a catalouge since I love literature too much and is a unsatiable reader.

Film: phui! same thing: too many to mention really. I watch a lot of film on dvd while doing my ironing. (I even iron my sheets as a result of this, which my future coach surfers will discover and appreicate I hope).Too of my favourite movies are "Down by Law" by Jim Jarmusch, and "Notorious" by Hitchcock. Oh and yes, not to forget Almodovar! Oh, yes and "Pan's Labyrinth " was amazing and right now , because I am cultivating an interest for Italy and all things Italian, films from Itlay are high on my ranking list.
