About Me

Hi, I'm Titania- pronounced like Tania, with a stutter. According to Shakespeare, I'm the Queen of the Fairies. Also according to Shakespeare, it's pronounced like Titanium; except replace the "um" and an "ah". Whichever way you say it, my name guarantees at least one speech impediment to all those who attempt it.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

There's no other place I'd rather be.

I've lived in tons of other types of places: hostels, air b&bs, bunkers, etc. Hotels and fancy-schmancy resorts too; though I'm not a fan of those. I don't travel for comfort. I travel for discomfort. For real-world experience. Complete with all it's real-world imperfections. Give me dirt, grim, musk, too hot or too cold.

And I love people- meeting people, talking to people, learning from people. Even admiring people from afar (in the least creepiest way possible). To me, the most interesting thing about any place is the always people. People amaze me.

Interests

I am an amateur at many things. And an expert at nothing. And that's exactly why I do it. I like to do things I'm bad at, because that's when I give myself permission to fail. And that's what makes it so damn fun.

To highlight some of the things I love, that don't love me back:
- HOT yoga (specifically in a 90+ F degree room, so I can just lay there and still sweat like I worked real hard)
- watercolor painting (when in doubt, add more water.)
- charcoal sketching (very messy. more mess = more fun)
- photography (my signature look: shaky blurs, awkward cut offs, unflattering angles)
- ukulele ("singing along" is really just a cover for me talking to myself)
- and, writing (it'd be odd if I didn't include that, huh?)

Music, Movies, and Books

"I like every music genre except country." -said everyone but me. I seriously like every music genre, with special affection for country. And most recently, Sertanejo. Brasilian country/pop. It's everything.

For those that like clear cut answers, you can label me as an Alternative/Indie/Rock/Folk fan. For those that don't mind ambiguous gray-ish answers, I'll say it depends on my mood. I'll also add, and I am not ashamed to admit, I am a Swiftie, and most recently, a Belieber.

The best place to listen to music: driving in my car. If my jam comes on when I've reached my destination, I'll sit in my car with the music on. When you check your reflection in a car window and realize there's someone still sitting in there- that's me.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I'm an American. And as an American, I'm a guilty glutton. So it's hard to pick one. Here's a handful.

- Sheltered myself under a straw hat to watch an outdoor Kpop concert. During a monsoon.
- Jumped off a 50 meter diving board into the Boracay ocean. (I don't know how to swim. But instinct knows when to kick in.)
- Wielded a machete to hack fields of corn and banana trees to feed elephants. Normally, I can barely manage a butter knife.
- Landed face-first in a ditch after driving a motorbike off a mountain in Pai, Thailand. Real challenge: using wild hand gestures to convince non-english speaking pharmacists to sell me scare gel.

What I Can Share with Hosts

An open ear. An avid student. An adventure partner.

If there's anything you've been wanting to try, but have no one to try it with, I'll be your plus one. Or if there's something you are afraid of failing, I promise to outshine you in my own failings. I'll set the bar so low, you're guaranteed to come out looking like a seasoned pro.

Or, if you're not in the mood to be social, consider me the out-of-sight helper elf you didn't know you needed. I'll even wash the extra spoon you used to sneak a midnight snack and left in the sink.
