CURRENT MISSION

On a one year round-the-world trip, starting in Feb 2015.
I spent 3 months in Africa for phase one, four months in South America for phase two, and now I'm spending four or five months in Southeast Asia.

ABOUT ME

Originally from the Washington, DC area. I've also lived 13 years in Alaska (ask me about it!). These days I'm a permanent resident in Vancouver, Canada.

I enjoy discussing everything under the sun. Basically, I like meeting people who are honest with themselves and others. I'm part free spirit and part career oriented professional, so I tend to get along especially well w people who are also balancing both those sides.

PHILOSOPHY

Never be afraid to ask for what's not on the menu.
Kindness and fairness are important, but as for the rest, think for yourself and do what you want to do.

I can be interested in absolutely anything if the person talking is excited about it - the further from my usual interests, the better.

My usual interests are politics, philosophy, books, movies, kayaking, hiking, food, travel, family, emotions, and plans for the future.

I like the unusual - but not when it veers over into the unkind.

Musik, Filme und Bücher

Books: anything by Ursula LeGuin, sci-fi, mysteries, fiction set in countries I'd like to learn about

Movies: Brazil, The Princess Bride, Singin' in the Rain, The Big Blue - when I'm in the mood for a film pretty much anything except shoot-'em-ups will do.

Eine tolle Erfahrung, die ich gemacht habe

I locked eyes with a black bear when we were both heading towards opposite banks of the same creek to get some water. We were both about 8 feet from the creek when we saw one another. I turned around & walked away slowly, talking in a calm voice about how I was just visiting... After 5 or 6 paces I looked over my shoulder, and she was also walking away, and also looking back over her shoulder, so we locked eyes again.

Lehren, lernen, teilen

Learn: I kind of halfway speak Spanish & would love to practice the language some more.

Teach: I've done a lot of grant proposal writing, so if you're involved w a non-profit org of any kind we'd probably have lots to talk about & I might be helpful. I'm also really good w editing or proof-reading pretty much any sort of document as long as it's in English.
