Overview
About Me
I'm presently on a walkabout. I left Canada at the end of April 2024 and am traveling open-ended. First up will be Southeast Asia and other places in the vicinity, probably for the rest of 2024. And after that? Well who knows. The only thing I know for sure is that I'm not allowed to go home for one year. That's my rule, nobody else's.
ABOUT ME
I am an easy-going, friendly, outgoing, respectful, curious, whimsical, and intelligent guy who wonders constantly about why the world works just the way that it does. I love that the world is made up almost entirely of people I've never met and places I've never seen. I hope to chip away at that throughout my life.
PHILOSOPHY
Live and let live. I believe we each make the very best choice we can in any given situation, with the information we have, at the moment we make it.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING
I used to host a bunch of years ago. And then I moved and it wasn't suitable for guests due to an unpacked second bedroom. By the time I unpacked, I actually forgot about CS entirely. I didn't log in again for years and years. Then when I was thinking of starting this trip, I suddenly wondered if CS was still a thing. It is, and now they charge for it! So I paid, because they hooked me up with some excellent guests those many years back.
Now I'm wondering if I should actually do my first surf. I've only hosted, never surfed. I'm updating this now because, well, why not?
Interests
My life has changed since Covid, as I guess many people's has. I used to be a go-out and social guy, and I definitely became more of a homebody. My travels are going to be focused on volunteering at dog rescues and seeing some sights. But mostly I want to have time for my little projects that I have given myself. Some learning, some creativity, and mostly on my laptop. So I'm planning to be a tourist maybe two or three days a week, and a learner/creator/whatever the majority of the time.
Music, Movies, and Books
Music: You name it, I like it. Almost.
Books: Everything Steinbeck, lots of non-fiction. I'm drawn in by great storytelling and finding out more about why the world is the way that it is.
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
This trip, man. This solo trip into the unknown, all by myself. I feel pretty amazing having been willing to give this a go.
What I Can Share with Hosts
I'd love to help you with your dog training, if you have a dog. I was a dog foster back home in Canada, specializing mostly in large dogs with challenging and complex behaviour problems. I learned a lot about force-free dog training to help my fosters deal with whatever fear or trauma they were dealing with. But I can also help you to teach them to stop nipping, do basic things like go to their bed, and that sort of thing.
