About Me

CURRENT MISSION

to finish my current novel

ABOUT ME

I live in Canada, which is a bit like my native United States but colder, Frencher, hockier, and slightly less cowboy (although some Albertans may take exception to that assessment).

PHILOSOPHY

Friends, family, involment (whether work, play, school, etc...), and cultivating the understanding among humans is what makes me enjoy my time here.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I've had a brief hiatus from Couchsurfing in general, but am reengaging.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I first tried surfing couches in Denmark--when the site was fairly new--and had a great time. I did a fair amount of surfing since and hosted (sometimes by proxy via my parents!) the odd traveler or two.

Interests

A lot of things and all the usuall stuff like sports, arts and literature, music, cultures, and, of course, feeding grasshoppers to spiders. I mean, I feel bad for the grasshoppers, but it must really make a spiders day when I toss a grasshopper into its web. (I wrote this in my original profile and am reluctant to change it, although I no longer participate in the practice, as spiders only scare me now).

Music, Movies, and Books

A couple favorites:
Movies: Snatch, Sideways, Memphis Belle, crap, too many
Books: Catch-22 by Joseph Heller, Updike's Rabbit series, I'm liking Hemmingway more and more, and To Kill a Mocking Bird might be the greatest American novel ever written. Elmore Leonard or Carl Hiaasen for lighter reading
Music: These are my five favorite bands/musicians. Everything I listen to probably stems from them: Jamiroquai (introduced me to acid jazz/r&b), The Beatles (introduced to perfect melodies), Harry Connick Jr. (introduced me to jazz), Jack Johnson (introduced me to simple, laid back music), the Roots (introduced me to hip-hop with deep, mind blowing beats, and lyrics to match).

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I once saw a hedgehog jump over a flaming tree. It's truly amazing what those things can do.

*Update! Oh man, I forgot I had written this but I actually had a pet hedgehog during my time in Vancouver. He has since passed due to an ailment vetrinary researchers refer to as "Wobbly Hedgehog Syndrome".

Teach, Learn, Share

Hmmm...I could defintely show the world how to make popcorn on a stove. I think I impressed more people with that than anything else during my year long stay in Germany.

Countries I’ve Visited

Austria, Canada, Czech Republic, Denmark, Finland, Germany, Mexico, Netherlands, Poland, Sweden, United Kingdom, United States

Countries I’ve Lived In

Germany, United States
