About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Get to know Birmingham better.

ABOUT ME

30 years old, living in Smethwick and working running a walking project around the West Midlands.

PHILOSOPHY

I'm a big fan of Paul Feyerabend's epistemological anarchism, but I wouldn't call it a 'personal philosophy'.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I've hosted, surfed and introduced various friends to couchsurfing.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I've hitchhiked all over the US and parts of Canada couchsurfing along the way, both through the website and serendipity, meeting a lot of wonderful people and generally having an excellent time, and have welcomed various people to my various places in London over the years, my parents' home in Wolverhampton and more recently to Birmingham where I live at the moment. I've also couchsurfed in Thailand, Slovenia and closer to home in the UK.

Interests

A electronic and folk music, dancing, cycling. I play melodeon and concertina and am trying to get better at singing.

Music, Movies, and Books

I mostly listen to dance music of various kinds. I don't watch many films, and when I do I'm not too fussy, but I won't watch horror movies. I buy hundreds of books of all sorts but if I'm being honest rarely read any of them any more apart from those by P.G Wodehouse and Terry Pratchett.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Swam 600 miles from land on an Atlantic crossing, snowboarded in August in Chamonix (and six hours hiking down the Grand Montets in snowboard boots), after hours thunderstorm absolutely alone in Angkor Wat, cycled UK-Croatia with my brother, seen Frog Pocket.

And more recently, because these are getting to be ancient history now... danced inside the stone circle at Stonehenge at sunrise.

Teach, Learn, Share

The only less usual thing that comes to mind is hitchiking tactics, but if you've thought about it and not got round to trying it all you really need to know is that someone WILL pick you up.

I work as a cycling instructor and love taking people out for rides - I can help you get confident cycling in traffic and on busy roads, which seems to be the big barrier for a lot of people. If you arrive on or with a bike I can do basic maintenance or show you how to do it yourself.
