About Me

Mingalar bar! 🌍✨

I'm a PhD student with a thirst for adventure, always on the lookout for those budget-friendly flight/bus/train tickets to explore as many corners as possible of our beautiful blue planet.

Growing up in Myanmar (Burma), I had no idea how vast the world truly was, thanks to our country's isolation under a harsh military dictatorship. But in 2010, our borders started to open to the international community, and I seized every opportunity to experience life beyond the horizon. Sadly, the military coup in February 2021 closed all our doors to a bright future again and brought unimaginable hardships for many of us. I'm just grateful for the "golden decade" I got to witness, and my heart aches for the youngsters back home who are now missing out a lot.

Although holding one of the world's weakest passports can be a challenge, I'm filled with hope that through my studies, work, and the magic of serendipity, I'll continue to uncover the wonders of our world beyond my tiny room. Here's to making new friends, one couch at a time! ✌️

Cheers! 🎉✨

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I’m a solo traveler with a trusty backpack. I thrive on meeting new people and hearing their incredible stories. There’s nothing quite like sharing our passion for travel and making connections along the way!

Since I have my own room, I'm excited to start hosting guests again. My room is most suited for solo travelers who need a place to crash after a day of exploring the city. If my schedule allows, I can show you some hidden gems around my apartment.

**!!! Important: Please read the "My Home" section carefully before making a request. !!!** I've had to reject many requests simply because people didn’t read my profile thoroughly. I used to explain why, but after receiving some aggressive responses, I decided to just ignore such requests.

When I’m not hosting, I can invite random guests to free lunch/dinner, and concerts which are the benefits of being an international student in Kyoto.

As I'll be in Japan for the foreseeable future, I'm on a mission to couchsurf through all 47 prefectures. If you share the same passion for travel and can host me somewhere in Japan, you're more than welcome to stay at my place! Let’s make unforgettable memories together.

Interests

I absolutely love getting to know fellow travelers on my solo adventures. Those moments create the most unforgettable memories and great friendships. I'm always eager to hear your most thrilling travel stories.

**My Interests:**
- Ancient ruins
- Architecture
- Mythology

I'm hoping to visit Central and South America in the future, as I've never been there. While I might be a terrible learner when it comes to new languages, I'm eager to master some basic Spanish before embarking on that exciting journey! 😄

Teach, Learn, Share

It's puzzling why people harbor so much hate and engage in wars. Why can't we embrace our differences? After all, most of us love unique items when shopping, right? But, the military coup brought new perspectives on wars for me. Sometimes, we can’t avoid them.

I enjoy talking about philosophies, the meaning of life, and happy memories with people I meet along my trips. Let’s learn something new together!!!

Personal recommendations in Kyoto:

1. Hike Daimonji mountain for the sunset view 🌅 and night skyline of Kyoto (bring insect repellents)
2. Visit the small Kimono forest 👘 at Arashiyama tram station at night
3. Cross Kamo River (Kamogawa) 🦆 stepping on tortoise stones at Kamogawa delta - it’s super fun
4. Vermilion torii gates ⛩️ at Fushimi Inari-taisha are best seen during early mornings to avoid big crowds
5. If you love cats 🐈, you might want to visit Philosopher’s path
