About Me

I was born in and grew up in the US, but I lived in China from 2011-2015. I am passionate about education and international education in particular - I've run study abroad programs for American students to study Chinese in various places around China, taught Chinese to middle and high school students in the U.S., and am now putting together academic enrichment programs for students from around the world. I'm an easygoing and very down to earth guy, and I'm always up for an adventure.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I had a great time surfing with my friend in Korea and China. During our 2 weeks in Korea, we met a lot of amazing Couchsurfers and even got to celebrate Christmas and New Years with them. We got along so well that we got back together again in China!

Another successful CS experience was in Xi'an, China - at one point, our host had 7 people from 6 different countries at her place! It reminded me of what CS is all about and I hope to have similar experiences in the future.

Actually all of my experiences have been overwhelmingly positive, too many to write about here! Couchsurfers has given me so much in terms of allowing me to meet some really cool people and also helping me learn more about the places I travel to. Currently, I am in a tiny apartment with no space to host, but I really enjoyed hosting in the past when I lived in China and hope to become a host again in the future.

Interests

I love playing ultimate frisbee, it's actually much more intense than people think. I also enjoy most outdoor activities like hiking, camping, biking, and even just walking.

I enjoy reading when I'm alone or sitting around talking with friends (or strangers) when I'm not. I like meeting new, interesting people and learning from them. I am also very interested in photography, even though I don't really have much time for it now when I'm working. Oh, and I love to eat! I'm learning to cook now so if you visit you might have to help me test out my latest dish.

Music, Movies, and Books

Don't really have any favorites, I'm okay with most kinds of movies, music, and books.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Faced my fear of heights and went skydiving. But I'm still afraid of heights.

Teach, Learn, Share

Well, I can solve a Rubik's cube and can speak English and Chinese. I'd be happy to teach any of those skills. I'm also pretty good at making Chinese stir-fry!

I would love to pick up bits and pieces of every language (at least hello!) and learn about different cultures. It would also be great to learn how to cook different kinds of foods so I can have some variety now and then.
