About Me

CURRENT MISSION

ABOUT ME
Just moved to San Diego for work. Depending on funding, I’ll be here for a few months or quite a while longer.

I play guitar and sing - especially when there's people to play with. I like to write, run, hike, and talk late into the night.

"Be kind, for everyone is fighting a hard battle."

I enjoy all philosophies and the discussion thereof.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I've hosted in the past, and would like to do so in the future. I lived for a short while in Osnabrück, Germany, and visit DE as much as I can. I sometimes wonder if I'll ever capture the feeling at home that I get when I'm traveling. I hope so.

I'm on couchsurfing so that I can travel and really get a feel for the places I stay. Hotels are so artificial - people on couchsurfing actually plug you into the place. I want to enable other people to travel the way that couchsurfing has allowed me to.

Music, Movies, and Books

The Count of Monte Cristo, Harry Potter, LOTR, Roahl Dahl, The Kite Runner, The Agony and the Ecstasy, The Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man

Explosions in the Sky, Peter Gabriel, David Bowie, Eric Whitaker, Fleet Foxes, Radiohead, Bibio, Nickelcreek, Balmorhea, Bon Iver, Dave Matthews, Queen, Sigur Ros.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I think I'll have to answer this more quietly than most. Much of the last ten years for me has been full of questioning everything I learned growing up. So, even though I've not done any amazing climbs or accomplished almost any of my loftiest goals, I can say that I've gone from being hyper-religious to being very progressive and open-minded. If you've seen the movie "Jesus Camp," or watched Bill Maher's "Religulous," you can imagine me as any one of the crazy cult children in the film - that's where I came from.

It left a lot of marks, but I think I've come out to the other side relatively intact.

Teach, Learn, Share

I want to learn Italian, German
and windsurfing

I'm currently getting into Elixir and neural nets - happy to talk about those.

I can teach cooking, some guitar, English.

What I Can Share with Hosts

I'm a good cook - I like to cook simple, healthy, often vegetarian dishes.
I can play guitar and sing for entertainment (not necessarily good entertainment. Just entertainment.)
Lots and lots of stories of America!
Good Conversation
