About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Get my feet under me, keep my heart open to whatever comes, and move forward in joy. Oh yes, and in the process show others how to live from their own inner light :)

ABOUT ME

Oh my. Where do I start?
I am not your average gal, although I did have a ridiculously well-adjusted childhood. I was almost totally unaware of social posturing until 6th grade, when I of course became painfully awkward. Somewhere around college that finally wore off, and I've greatly enjoyed the gradual blossoming of my life so far.

PHILOSOPHY

My worldview includes reincarnation, having a higher self and spirit guides (actually past selves), the existence of ETs, etc. It forms a rather fascinating picture, actually, and makes more sense to me than any religious dogma. I am here to grow, to become a better person, to expand my awareness, and so on. It's really simple, actually.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I know my basic purpose is to teach and learn, and this community seems a great place for that. At first I just stayed with other folks because I was in the middle of a very slow move across the country, but I've since hosted a variety of interesting people, and I'm quite intrigued about the whole premise of CS.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

Well, the stories are perhaps best told through the reviews I've left for the kind people I've stayed with, but what comes to mind at the moment is an image from Erika's house in Portland, OR -- the giant paper mache statue of a pink woman in high heels with a bust larger than any other part of her body... placed in the living room window to greet visitors. Add that to the Tibetan prayer flags across the porch, the hula hoops in the living room, and the household messages written on the fridge in marker, and you have an eminently rememberable house!

Interests

Living fully, climbing trees, knitting, sewing, reading voraciously, rolling down hillsides (with or without snow), laughing until my belly aches, singing harmonies, playing music (violin, recorder, piano, guitar, and other odds and ends) and of course listening to music (almost anything except most rap and country), solving mysteries and puzzles, teaching, listening to what my body has to tell me, hiking up rocks, hiking almost anywhere actually, napping in the sunlight, petting cats, baaaaaaaing like a goat, helping another person come to a new understanding, helping myself do that, swimming in the ocean, riding my bike in the summer time, and... I think I just ran out of steam.

Music, Movies, and Books

Being a semi-compulsive reader, books are difficult to list, but I should at least mention classic fantasy/sci-fi like The Lord of the Rings, classic young adult novels like Where the Red Fern Grows, most of the stuff on those middle school and HS reading lists, much of what turns up on the NYT fiction bestseller lists, and so on. For movies I'm not interested in slasher/horror or banal comedy that depends on cheap jokes, but anything else with a decent story, believable acting, and at least a little depth stands a chance with me. And music? As said above, rap and country aren't my favorites, and I'm partial to tight harmonies, interesting musical structure, etc. and not so engaged by anything where I have to sort through the noise to find the music.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I'm going to have to think about this one, and come back to it later.

Teach, Learn, Share

I've often taught others to knit, and in general things come easily to me -- math, writing, computer programming, graphic design, organization, music theory, etc. -- so if you're seeking help on a project or an understanding, give me a try. At worst, I'll be useless to you, but we'll have a good laugh about it. And yes, I'm interested in learning whatever you have to teach, provided I have enough time.
