About Me

CURRENT MISSION

I assist the next 7 generations to have a harmonious expereince of life on our Earth Mother. I work on community building, often with indgenous peoples from around the world and a former new yorker & world traveller I know the value of being a good guest

ABOUT ME

I am a mix of paradoxes: a third generation Californian who grew up in New York City. The first woman in my mother's family to attend college, now with a doctorate. A Cherokee related to Davy Crockett. An intellectual who does stand up. An artist who is good at business. A city gal living in the country. Go figure! I am at work on a memoir that examines some of these contradictions. See my website at www.tobeycrockett.com for more.

PHILOSOPHY

Live and let live. Most people are good. Kindness is my religion. I am not a doormat and have healthy boundaries and prefer others who are in this same category of relative maturity. Let your voice be heard. Don't hide your light under a bushel. Youth is almost - but not quite - wasted on the young. LOL.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I am just getting my feet wet so I am unsure even how often I will participate as a couchsurfer, but we're always hosting Elders who offer teachings and music and such to our extended community, so perhaps this will grow organically.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I certainly have traveled a great deal and stayed on many a coach. Most of those experiences have been great - and a few were pretty gnarly! When I host a guest, I like to give them really clean, crisp cotton sheets, several blankets in case they get cold, a choice of pillows, access to their own bathroom if possible and ask what they need in the morning. That is not what I "require" from my hosts, but I know from experience that these simple things make for a good night's sleep and mutual interaction. I like to offer towels, a night light and maybe extra ear plugs. We are snorers and I know that can keep people awake! LOL. Most people are just lovely, by and large.

Interests

Boy - that's a big list. It would be easier for me to say what I am not interested in. We are not very sporty or into sports. We're all about the life of the imagination, science fiction, history, art and world cultures. I have a Buddhist/Native American background and my husband Mark is more Christian. You can see we're very tolerant! We like comedy, improv, clowning and performance art (within limits! Oy!)I was an art critic, an art historian, in the art business and an entrepreneur for many years. Mark has worked with exotic animals, writing, special FX make up and lots of others things as well. We are up to date on news, popular culture and even philosophy to some extent. We like to share our knowledge and help others. He was an Eagle Scout. We've been married ten years, no kids. We met later in life and that's OK!

Music, Movies, and Books

Marie Antoinette, Star Trek, The Passenger, Peter Jackson's King Kong, Moulin Rouge and many more. Classical, the Beatles, trance, world, not so much rap/hip hop though it's ok too. We own about 2,000 books on many topics. We read a lot.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I saw a Night Rainbow on my second Vision Quest this year. It was incredible and gave me hope for the future.
