About Me

Hey there,

I'm Tobias - that is what I know about me.

After my studies in Sociology in Darmstadt, Germany, I startet to travel and explore the world.

My first first real travel was on the "Camino de Santiago" when I was already 23. I enjoyed the freedom very much, had much time to reflect and thought by myself that I want to explore the world more often.

So my next destination was Spain. There I lived half a year in Valencia in a very friendly flat share with local people, learned the language and grew to love the country.

After that I heard from an alternative education project in Germany, called "Wanderuni" which means "Walking University". The goal was to combine learning with hiking and being in nature. I quickly realized that I wanted to take part and so it came, that I was half a year on the move through Germany and Poland. First all on foot, then with an home-made "bicycle bus". Now I shared my everyday life with fife other lovely people at my age. We did not have much money so we often slept in farms or in the open, lived from dumpster diving and I had my first experience hitchhiking. All in all my time at the "Walking Univerity" was one of the best in my life where I learned so much about my country, about the nature, about humans and about myself.

Now, after nearly two years travelling and working at different places I´m going to settle down again and start studying my Master in Ethics and Organisation in the Ruhr in Germany. But I´m shure that travelling will remain an important part in my life.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

During the "Walking University" we had to find every day an new lodging very sontaneous. Every evening we asked people for a stay and so we had many wonderful meetings with local people: We met farmers and pastors, businessmen and dropouts. At this point where not money but the honest interest at each other and the willingness to give brought us together the moment started to be something special and "sacred".

I really have to say: The most important thing for me at this travel was the honest encounter with other people. To learn from them, to share my own experiences and to have a good time together - people who normally never would meet each other.

So I think Couchsurfing is a bit similar like "Walking University" and I´m looking forward to meet lovely people there too, to have a good time and learn from each other.
