About Me

CURRENT MISSION

trying to survive my life

ABOUT ME

Hello there, this is Tobias. I was born and raised in Germany, but have spent the last few years living, studying, working, and travelling abroad - surrounded by an amazing bunch of international, cosmopolitan friends.

My background is in IR/PolSci with most of my time and effort spent on security policy and the wider Middle East. I just moved from Beirut to Washington DC.

PHILOSOPHY

I have my likes, dislikes, emotions and compulsions. Rules of thumb, mostly. Nothing ready for the printers, or worth being called a "philosophy".

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I got hooked on CouchSurfing when I first used it for a US roadtrip in '09. Since then I have surfed, hosted and organized events wherever I was, often times outside the website.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

Made some genuine friends, some fun acquaintances and gave me a new perspective on some of the places I lived. Wouldn't miss it for the world. All of them different, all of them fantastic. One of the best things to ever have happened to me.

Interests

Wide and far! Since I've lived for a while now in a sort of international politics bubble, I've come to appreciate people who can talk about something else: Sciences, philosophy and literature! The further from the news the better.

Music, Movies, and Books

I'm a musical person in that I listen a lot, but I wouldn't be able to read notes if my life depended on it (though many have tried to teach me - all have failed).

I read obsessively, mostly non-fiction. Like really, a lot. Every once in a while I'll completely dive into one author until I can quote every line (s)he has ever put to paper from memory. Orwell is arguably my all-time favorite. Nabokov as well.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

The last few years have been fun to say the least. I'll tell you in person.

Teach, Learn, Share

To be honest, I do not know if I have any skills or anything practical to teach. I'm severly lacking when it comes to instruments, crafts and stuff. I'm a pretty decent cook? That's about it.

If you can remedy any of the deficiencies above, you're welcome to try. Otherwise I'll just share whatever knowledge and food I have.

Countries I’ve Visited

Albania, Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, China, Croatia, Czech Republic, Egypt, Ethiopia, France, Greece, Hungary, Indonesia, Iraq, Israel, Italy, Japan, Jordan, Kosovo, Lebanon, Luxembourg, Macedonia, Malaysia, Monaco, Montenegro, Morocco, Netherlands, Palestine, Portugal, Qatar, Serbia, Singapore, Spain, Switzerland, Tunisia, Turkey, United States
