ABOUT ME

I'm new to CS but have been a traveler for a long time. I particularly love Latin America. I just moved from my hometown in Virginia to Portland, OR. I very recently returned from a big trip to the Guianas and Brazil.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

On my most recent trip I experienced CS as a traveler staying with CS hosts. Now that I'm back home I'd love to reciprocate the hospitality I received abroad and host other CSers visiting Portland.

Interests

What do you like to do in your free time?I love ecstatic dance, swimming, [hula] hooping, painting, and reading.

Music, Movies, and Books

What do you like to watch, read, and listen to?My favorite authors are Vonnegut and Jonathan Safran Foer. I also love The Grapes of Wrath.I spend a lot of time listening to Iron & Wine, Calle 13, Fiona Apple, and Ben Folds.I don't watch a lot of TV but I do love Arrested Development, The Wire, and Flight of the Concords.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Once I was lost for an entire day in the wilderness of the Amazon basin in Northern Bolivia. Scariest day of my life.
I also spent a month in a very small rural village in the highlands of Southwestern Bolivia. There I lived with an impoverished Quechua family of 7. The village had hardly any electricity and wealth was shown by how many llamas you owned. It was a life changing experience.

Teach, Learn, Share

I'm open to teach both oral and written Spanish to English speakers. Though I'm not a mom, I've learned a lot about early childhood through my past job along with the state of American poverty and our broken immigration system. On the lighter side, I can teach some basic hula hooping moves.
I'm interested in learning more about gardening (my new place has raised beds ready to become a little garden but I don't know what to do with it) and sewing (I have a machine but I rarely use it because I'm such a novice).
