About Me

Married. I've lived in six different parts of the U.S. since graduating from college, including the West Coast, East Coast, and Midwest. I've also traveled a lot in the U.S., from Alaska to Alabama, Maine to New Mexico. I do a lot of outdoor things. I play ultimate Frisbee, go on bird walks, bike, fish, hike, ice-skate on lakes, canoe and kayak, swim, cross-country ski, camp, and more. My wife does some of these things with me. We also read a lot. She likes to knit and garden. I'm an active volunteer for a couple of local conservation groups. I often help with political campaigns, and sometimes serve on a county or city committee/commission.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I'm an extrovert, and my wife and I both enjoy being hosts. We've previously had strangers at our house: these were young people visiting the United States and we connected with them through the nearby state university, where my wife and I previously worked. Also, we both like to travel and meet locals when we do. Finally, Couchsurfing helps to reduce the costs of travel.

Music, Movies, and Books

I like music from many genres: Country and Western, Classical, Rock, Jazz, Blues, Folk, Punk. My wife and I generally watch foreign and older movies from "Best Films of All Time" lists or see non-Hollywood films at the local university. As for books, I generally read classics along with some contemporary fiction, history, and science books. My wife likes contemporary fiction.

Teach, Learn, Share

It depends very much on the host(s)/guest(s) and the particulars of the visit. Obviously, I do a lot of outdoor activities and have the gear (canoe, kayak, boat, fishing gear, hunting gear, binoculars, more). I'd be happy to share my knowledge about any of these activities and to learn as well. My wife's an excellent knitter and often gives guidance to other knitters.

What I Can Share with Hosts

That depends very much on who the hosts are, the location, the particulars of the visit, the wishes of the host(s), and more.
