O mnie

CURRENT MISSION

Writing a book :)

ABOUT ME

I write, read, enjoy learning new things, meeting new people and having good conversations. I used to teach children but am concentrating on writing more and hopefully, publishing something in the near future.

PHILOSOPHY

These things are best discussed in a good conversation, I reckon.

Jedna niesamowita rzecz, którą zrobiłem(-am)

When I was in Siem Reap, Cambodia, I took a wrong turn at Angkor Wat and found a village where the locals were playing Volleyball. I played Volleyball for years but hadn't in a while, so I was excited about this find! Fortunately, the guys playing let me join in and I ended up playing for hours. I made quick friends with one of the players who goes by the nickname of James Bond. (He earned this moniker because the registration number of his coffee shop at Angkor Wat is 007.) In the afternoon, it started raining pretty hard so James Bond invited me to stay for dinner and hang out at his house until the rain stopped and I could bike home. So, I spent the night drawing pictures with his kids, eating cool local food and talking to him and his brother-in-law 'Tommy Crazy Driver' (see blog post link below for explanation) about the realities of poverty in Cambodia, how tourism affects this, and about how poor Cambodians could improve their situation. It felt good to engage with people in this way; to engage with people in a way that transcends that tourist-local divide. Well, I prefer these types of experiences to more surface ones anyway, but each and every time I feel good to have shared something of myself and it be reciprocated.

I remember thinking afterwards that this experience was, for me, far more worthwhile than seeing temples. I'm glad I chose not to turn my bike around and return to the road I originally planned on taking that day.
