About Me

CURRENT MISSION

uh.............

ABOUT ME

I live in Pontiac,Michigan, which is a suburb of Detroit. I've lived in Metro Detroit my whole life. I'm studying English at Oakland University. I have a certificate from a broadcasting school, and it feels like i've been in college forever. I'm single,straight,30,and mult-ethnic/racial. I've "surfed" on people's couches via this site and others, but i've never hosted, because i just live in an efficiency apartment, which is barely big enough for me. Plus,i don't even have a couch. One day, when i move out of here,i plan to host some CS-ers.

PHILOSOPHY

Don't take life (or yourself) too seriously...there are things more valuable than money...organized crime and organized religion are both inherently evil, and have the capacity to make people (who are otherwise intelligent and rational)do,think and say unintelligent and irrational things...Democrats and Republicans are working hand-in-hand to destroy this beautiful experiment we call America...the Earth was healthier before humans arrived...you can't be everybody's friend...Be good to as many people as possible,in as many ways as possible, not to avoid hell or secure a spot in heaven, but because it's just the right thing to do...the obsession over vaccines and antibacterial soaps and hand-sanitizers is killing our immune systems. Be clean, but don't over-do it. Eat more fermented foods...the squeaky wheel gets the grease...admire and respect nature...look out for yourself, because nobody else will look out for you quite like you will, and there are new scams being created all the time...let the people in your life know that you appreciate them...share,give,receive and forgive (but don't forget)...trust your instincts, but be open-minded...don't believe everything that you hear, read or see...don't be a fool or an asshole, anymore than you are humanly required (the world has enough people permanently locked into this state of mind)...know your enemy...keep your friends close, and your enemies closer...we're not here for a long time,we're here for a good time. Don't worry about a thing,'cause every little thing's gonna be alright. Money can't buy you love (and love is all you need).

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

Sleeping on other people's couches, and making new friends in different cities. If people were in the area,i would be cool with showing them around, and joining them for dinner or drinks, but nobody has taken me up on that yet.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I have couchsurfed in Chicago,IL,Grand Rapids,MI,and East Lansing,MI. Also,a few years back,i went to a protest in Washington,DC,and via a website that was set up specifically for the protest (to connect people looking for lodging during the protest, with people offering lodging to people coming into town for the protest),i was able to arrange for me and a friend to stay at a guy's house,in Maryland. So,not only would i speak highly of this website, but also of the concept,in general. My experiences have been primarily positive.

Interests

Cooking food...going to restaurants...going to beer festivals and beer tastings...bowling...swimming...shooting pool...watching movies and going to film festivals...concerts...house parties...reading...internet junkie...occasional TV viewing....art fairs...burlesque...learning new things...embracing technology...etc. This list could go on and on for days. If we meet, you can ask me questions,or we can just go to something that i think is cool, and then you can decide if you think i'm cool or weird. Admittedly,i'm a little of both. It's all a matter of perception.

Music, Movies, and Books

Movies: "The Big Lebowski";"Inglourious Basterds";"Catch Me If You Can";"Let Me In";"Ray";"Walk The Line";"Pirate Radio";"Almost Famous";"U.S.Marshalls";"Bloodsport";"Machete";"Sin City";"Donnie Darko";"Beatlejuice";"Taken";"Law-Abiding Citizen"
Music: I abhor modern rap and country, and i have no use for dance music, because dancing is just not an interest of mine. Other than that,i'm fairly open-minded. Don't confuse this with an inability to be selective,or a lack of an opinion. I just would need several pages,to list all of the bands and musicians that i like.
Books: I tend towards non-fiction,but I like some fiction, too. This is another long list. Ask me when you meet me.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I joined an honors society in college.

1)All domestic canines are descendants of wild wolves. 2) Most people consume mood-altering and/or fermented products every day. 3)In Victorian England, you could say a lot about how you feel,by wearing a particular type of flower. They called it the Victorian Language of Flowers. 4) In Shakespeare's works, the word "nothing" commonly refers to a woman's virginity, and the word "die" commonly refers to an orgasm. 5) Detroit was once known as the Paris of North America. 6) The reason why places with the hottest climates have the spiciest cuisines, has to do with the fact that warmer climates make pathogens grow on food quicker, and hot peppers prevent the growth of food-borne pathogens. 7) Most forms of alcohol, that people drink, were initially made as an alternative to drinking water, which had bacterias that many people died from. So,much like the spicy foods in #6,people began drinking alcohol for survival, and then realized that they enjoyed its effects. 8) Each stage of decomposition, for a human body, attracts a different type of insect. You can tell when somebody died,by observing what types of insects are feasting on the corpse. 9) In Shakespeare's day, when a man was cheated on by his wife, they would call him a "cuckold",and he was imagined to have horns growing out of his head. 10) Mead was the first form of alcohol known to man. 11) Honeybees have an intricate language of dance, which they use to communicate to other bees, that there is a good source of pollen nearby, and exactly in what direction it is,and how far away it is. 12) There are some species of frogs, which can change their sex,if there is a disproportionate number of one sex vs. the other, for the sake of procreating. 13) The first 18 of Shakespeare's sonnets are entirely dedicated to procreation. 14)The words SCIENCE and SHIT have common word origins. 15) The original definition of the word NICE was not so nice. It actually meant that you were stupid. 16) The most expensive variety of coffee in the world,is called Kopi Luwak. Before it is roasted and made into coffee, the beans are first eaten by a wild jungle cat,and then extracted as whole beans, from the animal's dung. 17) The original population of Martha's Vineyard was largely hearing impaired. 18) In the Post-Civil War Reconstruction-era,there was a group of people called the Blue Vein Society. It consisted of people who had some African ancestry, but were white enough to be able to see their blue veins. Based on antiquated laws, these people were all considered (legally) to be black, even though they were mostly white. 19) While President,Benjamin Harrison did not have a wife. It is widely speculated that he may have been homosexual. 20) Much of the English language is based in German. 21) In the Canary Islands, there is a tribe whose language consists entirely of whistling. 22) There are numerous micro-flora (good bacteria) in the intestinal tract. They can effect everything from how hungry you feel, how quickly nutrients are absorbed into the body, how fast you metabolize food, and what sorts of things are extracted from food. The mix of micro-flora is different from person to person. Scientists are currently studying the difference between the micro-flora in thin people vs. heavy people,to determine what bacteria we need to combat obesity.
