About Me

CURRENT MISSION

To experience all and as much as one lifetime permits

ABOUT ME

TOFF: I'm 27, and am kept busy these days running our bakery and watching our son, Trip, grow. I love the outdoors, and I'm keen to get out climbing, hiking or just outdoors in general if you are nearby or even a bus trip away I'd love to hear from you! I want to experience as much as I can in life! I dont watch TV, I can't sing even though I try, I'll try anything once, and I'll try most things twice! I love the Couch Surfing Project and have had 100% awesome experience so far! Its always great to meet new people, especially the CS type!!!

CARA: I'm 26, and love finding my home somewhere between America and Australia with Toff. South Australia is home for now, and I must say that life down here by the beach is pretty easy to love. I'm generally happy doing anything, but am at my happiest with a camera or a book in my hand. Or maybe a piece of watermelon.

PHILOSOPHY

The only way of defining what is possible, is by venturing beyond, into the impossible...

Time spent worrying is time wasted. Dont waste time, simple as that!

Triumph starts with "TRY" and ends with "UMPH!!"

Happiness is a conscious choice, not an immediate action.

Live the life you love - love the life you live!

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

We love having people around - whether through CS or having friends/family over for Sunday night dinners! So we would love to catch up for a coffee or a drink no matter where we are in the world. We host whenever we can, wherever we are - which is currently Port Willunga in South Australia.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

TOFF:
Hosted my first couch surfer! Harm from Belgium!

Had Joumana and Katie drop in on their way from Brisbane to Perth.

Sara from Sweden stayed on two separate nights on her way to and from KI, really enjoyed her company!

Caught up with Paolo from Italy, great guy.

Met Jac from Singapore and had fellow SA CS Letti cook us an awesome dinner at her place. Thanks Letti! :)

Got an Adelaide CS Meet off the ground and met a few local members plus Clara and her enterage from Liege, and Mat from Poland.

Went to the CS camp in Tigre, Bs As and meet heaps of cool couchsurfers from around the globe.

Stayed with Kate in BA.

kept on bumping in to CSers around South America!!!

TOFF & CARA:
Surfed our first couch together, Zan and her roomates in NYC for New Years Eve 2009!

Cara hosted her first surfer, Peter at her Harrisonburg town house while Toff was off trying to track down the "rare and illusive US visa"

Surfed with Megan in Erie, PA for a night.

Were the first guests of Vlad and Maria in Toronto! Hopefully we made a good impression on behalf of CS :)

Stayed with Stephanie and her 2 sisters in Montreal - in what we would describe as our dream apartment.

Hosted Dan the 'mexican-german' for a few nights, then saw him again down at the beach a week later!

Hosted Emilie and Alexis from France - they made the most awesome crepes for dinner and dessert one night - Yummy!!

Hosted Chris, the swede with a north american accent, who helped toff tear apart the backyard in his handyman madness.

Hosted Matt from France, who had the best hitch-hiking sign we've ever seen, and it worked a treat too!

Surfed with Irene from France in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan! Her love of Central Asia helped us love it too!

Surfed with John in Almaty, Kazakhstan - on one of the RARE nights he only had us 2 surfers with him (his record is 17!)

Surfed with Ond in Bangkok, Thailand...on 3 separate occasions! One of which gave us the chance to celebrate his birthday with him!

Interests

TOFF:
The majority of my interests lie in the outdoors, so I try to combine work and play by doing instructing work in various outdoor activities. I love the snow (boarding), even though there's none near my house, Rockclimbing, Paddling and Bushwalking, I'm also just getting in to surfing and have a limited knowledge of Kite Surfing. There are good surf beaches not far from my house, don't listen to any of the hype about the sharks in SA, the majority of surfers are still out there! I also like to cook and I love playing Cards!!!

CARA:
Coffee shops, wine, watermelon, apple pie, apple juice, photography, collaging and other art projects, reading, being a lazy flower in the sun, swimming, anything involving water, wandering, summer!, wheat beer (which is hard to come by in Oz apparently), tie dye, Thai food, swings...and anything else your typical 8 year old would enjoy. :)

Music, Movies, and Books

TOFF:
Movies: A bit of everything. Thrillers and action movies usually get me in, a few favourites: The usual suspects, Fight Club, Donnie Darko, Paycheck, The life of David Gale, The Negotiator, Shawshank Redemption, House of Flying Daggers, Monsters inc, The Prestiege!!!,

Music: A bit of everything, I love and support Aussie musicians. Right now I'm listening to Powderfinger, Silverchair, Josh Pyke, Hilltop Hoods restrung, Missy Higgins, Arcade Fire, Kaiser Cheifs, TripleJ

Books: Dont really read much, but will read any climbing literature, eg. Touching the Void, Kiss or Kill

CARA:
I read too much, it's true. Currently recommending The Time Traveler's Wife by Audrey Niffenegger. My new favorite book is The Lost Recipe for Happiness...and I literally jumped for joy when we found it in a used bookstore in Bangkok.

My one and only movie recommendation is Stranger Than Fiction. Will Ferrel's in it, but it's not one of his normal movies. Check it out, it's amazing. Other than that I typically go for more indie films, and I love Pixar movies (as we said earlier, I really and truly enjoy things most 8 year olds would like)

As far as music goes...I like a lot, a few artists I can't get enough of are Sugarland, Kings of Leon, and Dave Matthews Band.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Toff: Perfect sunrise on Fitz Roy, Argentine Patagonia.

Cara: Met a monk named Joy in Laos and went with him to visit his family.

Teach, Learn, Share

Teach: Toff can teach you how to find South using the southern cross. And Cara can teach you how to find your inner child through the use of playgrounds and cardboard boxes.

Learn: Toff would like to learn chinese, and Cara would like to learn anything an enthusiatic or passionate teacher has to offer. Oh...and right now we're both trying to learn yoga.

Share: We can share with you our experiences from different parts of the world, most often delivered through a combination of good food, good wine, and good people!

Countries I’ve Visited

Albania, Argentina, Bolivia, Cambodia, Chile, Croatia, Greece, Italy, Japan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Laos, Montenegro, Peru, Thailand, United Kingdom, United States
