About Me

Hey there! My name is Tom and I come from Cleveland, Ohio but I tend to identify more with the mountain west of the United States. Particularly Utah where I studied natural resources and ran cross-county and track at Utah State University in Logan.

Currently I am serving as a Peace Corps Volunteer in western Uganda. I have been here since June working with local people in my community to practice improved farming methods in response to climate change. My time here will soon be up and I will be head back to Utah in August to finish my studies.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

During my travels I have found that having the company of a new friend greatly improves the quality of a trip. I've come to appreciate a friend's roof over my head and hearing stories from travelers under my own roof.

Music, Movies, and Books

My grandfather got me into jazz at a very young age so I've always had an appreciation for the genre. He also helped me learn how to play the drums so I enjoy anything with a nifty beat. During my travels I elect to play the guitar instead of hauling around a drum kit. Learning a string instrument has me listening to a lot of folk most recently. I try to stay loyal to my Cleveland pop-punk roots whenever possible.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

In the summer of 2013 I work in Flathead National Forest and the Bob Marshal Wilderness of northwestern Montana building trails deep in the back country. Spending weeks at a time deep in the mountains and forest with only a few fellow crew mates, some mules to carry our gear, and grizzly bears really made for some wild stories.

Teach, Learn, Share

Sharing music and playing instruments together is one of my favorite things. Combine that with cooking a great meal with local ingredients after a long hike or run and I will be in a perfect state of bliss.

I also enjoy talking about international development and the global environment.

What I Can Share with Hosts

I am always willing to cook a good meal for my guests. I'm happy to take guests around the village as well.
