About Me
Hi everyone! My friends call me PJ, and I’m a 25 year old Welshman who’s lived around the world for almost 3 years. For those who don’t know about Wales (most people don’t :( ) its a country in the UK which has its own language (actually my first language: Welsh). And yes, I have a British accent :D
I currently live in Beijing, China and have been for the last 2 years. During that time I’ve been working as an English teacher. Mainly I’ve been teaching classes of children from 2-12 years old, as well as giving private lessons to both children as well as adults.
I also work part-time for a company called Baidu (China’s equivalent to Google, as the latter is banned :( ). I regularly write, perform and edit short language videos which are used on their APP. As well as this (just like many travellers) I run my own little travel website, writing guides and blogs on my travels as well as making the occasional video.
My intentions are to travel the world for as long as possible. One way I have done this in the past is by volunteering across different countries. I’ve volunteered at different schools as well as in hostels and farms. Of course its no secret one big motivator was a free place to stay, but more importantly its an incredible way of experiencing a country or an area in a much more personal and unique way. Its a way of meeting individuals you never would have had a chance to otherwise, a way to fully expose yourself to a different culture, different people and different experiences.
I’m new to couch surfing and unfamiliar with how things work on here. The last thing I want is for someone to think I’m just looking for a free bed! Wherever I’m lucky enough to stay I regard myself as a guest, and should treat the host and their home with the respect they deserve. I want all the advice, all the stories and all the fun i can get :D
I don’t have too many practical skills to offer, however I can offer my company, my stories, perhaps teach some English or even some Welsh if you were interested. By now I even know basic Mandarin! I also have plenty of stories and advice for the places I have been, and perhaps some help with website/video making :D
Hope you’ll honour me with this opportunity :)
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
A more personal form of travelling which allows me to get exposed much closer to the way of life in a particular place. To be able to listen to stories and advice from residents, giving me a much wider mind-set than if i simply stayed in a hostel by myself
