Hey! My name's Tom. I'm a 19 year old travel photographer based in Australia. I run the instagram account @tomgoesabroad and have a modest community of a bit over 15'000. I love nothing more than connecting with great people and experiencing new cultures and situations ( I used to be very shy but travelling has reversed this entirely!) I also study Architecture at the University of Sydney.

I have visited 17 countries and am currently on my 3rd European tour hoping to reach 24 countries, I'm spending time with my girlfriend who lives in Belgium and travelling when she's doing her exams! I have travelled to many parts of Asia and also went on a quick exchange in Japan as part of High School. I'm a winter kinda guy and I love the cold, something I don't often experience where I live, last year it reached 50°C west of Sydney, so I'm traumatised ;)

Warum ich bei Couchsurfing bin

I am currently writing a travel guide to be published later this year, and from what I've experienced travelling the best trips are also the ones spent with a local at a homestay. I'm very new to this but I'm so excited to see what the community has to offer. Now that I'm a student it's harder for to afford these big 3 month trips, so I rely on brand sponsorships and am hoping Couchsurfing could alleviate some of the pressure also. I don't believe in getting something for free and not giving something back so I am more than happy to do a little photoshoot and edit in exchange!

Musik, Filme und Bücher

My musical tastes are sooo broad. It can be anything from today's rap to Bowie or to Sinatra or even metal! But my all time favourite band is Radiohead, oh and I also had an obsession with Michael Jackson as a kid haha (so I have a soft spot for him) But believe me when I say I love all types of music, it's too hard for me to write a list!

I wish I read more, I really do enjoy it but I just never find myself doing it. I enjoyed the Hunger Games Series when I was younger and also loved the books by Enid Blyton such as the Faraway Tree.

As for movies I've seen them all haha, love comedy but will enjoy almost anything.

Eine tolle Erfahrung, die ich gemacht habe

Rescuing a sheep trapped in a hole whilst sinking into very deep mud in the middle of the wilderness on the Faroe Islands. So lucky I was walking in it's direction and heard it screaming as the pit had collapsed on top and she wasn't visible. She was completely fine after we got her out though!

Lehren, lernen, teilen

I can definitely teach you photography, I have extensive knowledge so wether you want to learn how to take photos of the stars or of a city at night I'm here to help. I'm currently trying to learn French but I am not very good at all! so I'd love help with that haha.

I have some pretty cool stories and am very easy to get along with, I will be very respctuful of you and your home and follow any rules you have set in place. I can do some photography for you or if you're comfortable with me cooking I'd be happy to do that also! My mother is a chef and has taught me to cook, I can cook a pretty good curry ;)
