About Me

Hello! Im Tom. I am 23 from the UK and studying at Oxford Brookes University.

I have spent the past 5 years working, travelling and learning German. I have lived and worked all around Australia and New Zealand. Lived for a year in Munich, Germany. Then a ski season in Austria and a Summer in Greece as a Watersports instructor.

My interests are anything to do with Sport, animals and the outdoors. I am especially keen on Skiing, Snowboarding, Rugby, Surfing, Sailing, Cycling but most of all windsurfing.

How did i find couch surfing?

I bought a cycle bike in Munich in order to get to and from the train station. After a while had the idea "why not cycle it back to my home town in the UK?" The idea quickly became a plan and after several Months of planning, saving, buying all the equipment and training I went for it. 1 Bike, 2 Legs, 4 Weeks, 7 Countries, 2300km (haha). I met many amazing couch surfers along the way, shared our stories and generally had a great time.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

Ive heard many positive stories from people I've met travelling about Couchsurfing (and a few dodgy ones) . Ive always been interested in giving it a go. My experience staying with heaps of random Couch surfers on my cycle trip from all walks of life was amazing and I cant wait to do it again.

Interests

Ive got heaps and am always open and keen to try new ones. Rugby, Surfing, Sailing, Skiing and most recently Cycling are my top few. But I also enjoy skateboarding, waterskiing and swimming. I am a qualified Sailing and Swimming Instructor and have also coached Rugby and Hockey. Ive also had in the past stranger hobbies such as Western Horse Riding and probably strangest of all Bee Keeping.

Music, Movies, and Books

For music it has to be Mumford and Sons but i tend to like anything with a jiggy beat. Acoustic, alternative country folk music is generally my cup of tea. I read a lot of crime thrillers and my favourite Author is James Patterson. When it comes to movies I pretty much go with the flow. Anything floats my boat except horror and pointless violence and gory.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Hard to choose really. If i had to say my favourite thing ive done it would be skydiving over Australia's Byron Bay, although thats not that amazing, all I did was scream while strapped to another dude. All In all it was my 2300km Cycle challenge from Munich to Bristol, it was tough, boring at times but overall it was the most amazing life changing experience!

What I Can Share with Hosts

My experiences, ideas, thoughts on the world and a generally happy conversations or even, being British, just a nice cup of tea. (or bacon)
