I am a grad student in the Human-Robot Interaction Lab at Tufts University, where I study Computer Science and Cognitive Science and get to work with robots!

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

When I travel for conferences, I like to stay an extra day or two on my own dime to actually see the places I'm visiting! As a grad student I don't have much cash so couchsurfing helps make this possible.

Interests

I love to sing! As an undergraduate I helped start an a cappella group, sang in the college choir and chamber choir, and participated in many musicals and revues.
Today I sing in an a cappella group, and write and perform parody songs for departmental events.
I enjoy playing board games with my labmates. We play everything from light party games (e.g., Coup, The Resistance) to games that end up taking five or six hours to play (e.g., Arkham Horror, Battlestar Galactica). However, my favorite is probably Dominion, which my girlfriend and I play quite a lot of. I also dabble in board game design.
I also enjoy solving and creating crossword puzzles. I have created several crosswords with co-creator George Barany, which can be found alongside many other excellent puzzles at George's website.
Finally, I enjoy nerding out about craft beer. I have recorded over 1000 ratings, and have created a series of maps analyzing craft beer density in various American cities.

Music, Movies, and Books

I am an avid reader. I prefer science fiction and fantasy, particularly the work of Neil Gaiman, China Mieville, Nick Harkaway, Neil Stephenson, and the like. I've been known to read while I walk.

My favorite artists/bands are Muse, Ben Folds, Bear McCreary, and Philip Glass.
