About Me

English teacher living in beautiful A Coruña - I have lived in Spain for nearly four years and enjoyed every minute of it. I speak Spanish to a good level and I also speak some Italian. My next project is to learn Galician, and I want to learn French as well, but there is never enough time!

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I'm on couchsurfing to meet new and interesting people from all over the world and to explore new places and things together. One of my favourite things about the website is that every single person I have met through couchsurfing has been a really lovely person with something wonderful to share with the world, so I want to meet as many of you as possible!

Interests

I love listening to music, especially live concerts and festivals, and I listen to and enjoy absolutely everything I can get my hands on! When I'm not listening to music I really enjoy reading, cooking, swimming, travelling and meeting new people. For me, there's nothing better than eating excellent food in good company with music and an interesting conversation!

Music, Movies, and Books

I love all music, but if I had to choose a favourite group it would be The Clash. I grew up listening to punk and ska music, got into indie, hip hop and country music at university. Since then I have been expanding my tastes, going back to old Trojan records-era reggae, blues, Motown and Northern Soul and trying to keep up with new music. At the moment I'm listening to a lot of spoken word poetry. I would love it if you threw something new into this already-eclectic mix!

I'm pretty bad with films, and there are a lot of classic films that I'm ashamed to say I haven't watched... enlighten me!

I studied literature at university, and reading has been a passion since I was a child. The first author I fell in love with was Douglas Adams, and he continues to be one of my favourite authors, along with Percy Shelley, Virginia Woolf, Sylvia Plath, Marcel Proust and Franz Kafka. I can't remember a time when I haven't had a pile of books that I'm eager to read as soon as I finish what I'm reading at the moment!

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

This summer I had a pretty incredible camping holiday around the Basque Country and La Rioja - I could never get tired of the beautiful north coast of Spain. However, I think the most stunning place I have ever visited was the Ribeira Sacra and the Cañon do Sil. Driving around that region, drinking Albariño and travelling up the river by boat almost made me want to go out and live in the wild, so that I would get to know every inch of that landscape. My friends were able to drag me back to the city, and I'm glad that they did!

Teach, Learn, Share

I decided to become a teacher because I know that teaching, learning and sharing are what inspire me more than anything else. I love the fact that every year I see my students improving and maturing, growing into intelligent and engaged adults. Sharing what we have, whether it is something material or something intangible like knowledge or space is the most human activity that exists, in my opinion. The only problem is that there isn't enough time to do everything, but we can try!

What I Can Share with Hosts

As I mentioned above, I love cooking (because I love eating) and I generally spend a few hours in the kitchen every day. I would be more than happy to cook something tasty for you if you're able to host me, or if I'm able to host you. But the most important thing is to share experiences, because every place in the world is defined more by the people in it than by anything else!
