About Me

Hello! My name is Toma Omi and I am an 19 -year-old Japanese American. I was born and raised in San Francisco, California. I am on my 2nd gap year trying to explore the world and try to figure out what I want to pursue.

It is very uncommon for students to take a gap year out of highschool back in the U.S. (less than 2%); and all of my friends think I am crazy. They just don’t know all about the amazing food, sightseeing and people I meet ! :)

Last year I backpacked south-east Asia for 6 months. I would love to experience different cultures and learn from my travels. Some of my hobbies include soccer, surfing, traveling, and cooking.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I had the amazing experience to volunteer and teach for a month in Cambodia. It was an enriching experience meeting loving kids and learning the Khmer culture.

Teach, Learn, Share

I bring the gift of language to the table as I can teach both English and Japanese. I'm also eager to immerse myself in new languages and cultures, fostering a two-way exchange of knowledge and understanding during my travels.

What I Can Share with Hosts

As a guest, I'm excited to share my knowledge and appreciation of both Japanese and American cultures with my host. Whether it's preparing traditional dishes, sharing stories and insights, or even helping out with household chores, I'm committed to making the stay enjoyable and mutually beneficial.

Countries I’ve Visited

Cambodia, Canada, Costa Rica, France, Germany, Indonesia, Japan, Laos, Mexico, Scotland, Singapore, Thailand, United States, Viet Nam
